May 2011 - US History Post-Test Discussion

^same. i think it’ll be around that or maybe -12/-13 hopefully!!

When you guys say that 79 / 90 is supposed to be an 800, do you mean a 79 before or after the guessing points are taken away?

take a guess. logic will hopefully prevail.

don’t be mean, collegebound. It refers to after all the calculations, btw. After the guessing penalty.

I think the curve on this one might be more generous just because some of the questions were a bit tricky.

im not being mean…but the put of a guessing penalty is that its…a penalty.

Wow, -10 is an 800? Does the College Board have no standards?

What does it take to get a 600? Random guessing?

No, a 600 is about 1/2 wrong. Random guessing is usually 1/4 the credit. But its not based on the actual score, its based on how you do compared to everyone else that takes it. The average score(50th percentile) is a 530-550 I think. Just like it is for SATs.

mass market, there are 90 questions…not 50 like math 2.

can i break 700 with 12-18 wrong, and 3 blank?

^you’re talking about the poem that was on a factory pamphlet, right? The poem talked about work bells/schedules, etc…It was obviously Taylorism, it had nothing to do with cooperation…

Bren, I took -15 and 3 blank, ie. -19 in reality. And yes, it breaks 700. It’s a 740.
-18, or 68 in reality, is a 730. You have a great shot of making a 700+

the answer is taylorism.

also, i remember another question…
81. what’s wrong with the survey for the 1930 (?) election: it was biased.

Yes, it was biased. We already discussed that one a while back though.

25 wrong, 11 blank…what is that?
or 21 wrong 11 blank…

goin worst case and best case lol

worst-660
best-710

How is that even possible? Have you not taken a US History class?

…and then I see that that’s a 700. It makes me sad when I think about the realities of most of our education system.

who the **** are you? and no I havent taken Us history, i go to a prep school that does things differently. And Im pretty sure im getting well educated at this school lol considering 1/3 of our class goes ivy

thank you nostalgic

MassMarket, I doubt you’ve taken the test to see what level it is. It’s harder than the AP exam(well this one wasn’t, but usually it is). There is a reason it has such a juicy curve on it. It’s so detail oriented(books, arts, people) that even my history teacher, who is a designated chief of boards for the APUSH exam, missed 6 on the practice exam(the one in the blue book) I asked her to take.

A test that deals solely with memorization in no way represents educational realities. Stop insulting others if you don’t know what their strengths or weaknesses are.

Oh wait…you posted earlier in this thread. Never mind. But still, I would understand your point if this was a math test. But it isn’t. It’s a memorization and slightly luck(since the topics can be so odd) based test.
