May-2012- Biology (E/M)

I agree I’ve heard that SAT bio is easy but this test was much harder than i expected and the curve according to the official sat study guide doesn’t look that great. i probably got like 3 wrong. AP bio here as well, at least the AP will be a piece of cake to get a 5.

No. Not true. Least extinction is A because it has a flux of immigrants/emigrants. Gene flow. A small island could equally have a gigantic volcano.

did that part with the islands go ACAC?

Sorry to go against the general vein here, but I thought the test wasn’t bad. There was nothing really specific like obscure protein/hormone names. Some more application questions (like the scar on the tree question), but other than that, I thought it was pretty straightforward.

@infrapods that’s what I got…last one was the island with lowest biodiversity?

This one has been discussed to death, but there is NO WAY the answer to the reproduction one was haploid gametes- even though polyploidy is an ‘exception’ it still happens in plants. The zygote one was probably right, seeing as it was sort of nonsensical (zygotes don’t form from mitosis… they’re single cells).

A (closest) would have greatest biodiversity, C (furthest) would have greatest extinction.

I would like a 780, but knowing the number I missed (worst case scenario likely being 10 since I know I missed 7 for sure) I think I’m at about 750.

wait missing 7 is a 750??

Should I cancel if I think I missed 10?

according to the official study guide, a raw score of 60 is the minimum for a 700, i got 4 wrong and probably some stupid mistakes so hopefully i will get a 780 or 790

Anyone remember any other questions? One we haven’t listed yet was super simple- it just asked in what kind of symbiosis do both organisms benefit. The answer was mutualism.

Did anyone take E and remember the first two questions of the E section?

Um, which point does tree separate due evolution of true tissue: A
and where did protosomes and duestrosomes split: D

i cant remember my answer for the tissue one but i put d for the second one.

which section was the insulin question on?
also, testes was def the answer for gametogenesis–males start at puberty, females at the embryonic stage.
does anyone remember other E section questions?

Lets see, bacteria growth on logistic graph: exponential, unlimited
bigwhiteflower at night- moth
andd the rest weren’t tricky enough to be memorable. I hope.

deadline for cancelling sat II scores: coming wednesday (may 9)
but if u took more than 1, and u cancel bio, u cancel ALL of your tests

When the new colored plant colonized new island: founders effect? can anyone back me up on that?

for that one I put adaptive radiation b/c it talked about how the plant grew in an uninhabited region. founder effect is when a natural disaster occurs and only a few organisms are left to repopulate

Doublechenn that’s what I put. What about the tree and the question about true tissues? I think I got it wrong because I said that chinadreans and porifera don’t have true tissue. Also the cytosol and plasma membrane question? anyone?

No, youre thinking bottleneck, and founders effect is when alleles are over represented because one, or a few individuals are the first and only ones to colonize a new land, which is why the color was important, and i dont think it was adaptive radiation because, well, the plant didnt adapt to anything. im crossing my fingers on that one
