May 2012 Critical Reading Discussion

i put commonly used

@michael2013

I got mild criticism because he said something along the lines of “as if achieving happiness were that easy…”

I don’t think that’s harsh at all

What about the one with the girl hugging the doll? what did that show?

@michael2012
I thought it was a blunt command, and I got boon as one of my answers also.

oops guessed the one that began with a. Had it down to the right ttwo though haha.

@likeastarr

Establish sympathetic character?? Wasn’t sure

@likestarr
I put something about deception. She was deceived into believing the doll could be cured with a hug.

@zzzz
Be Happy is not a blunt command, it is a common thing said on letters.

@likeastarr
now i’m really confused! sounds like the fluoride was also experimental. did you have venice?

what was other choices for boon?

@michael I put that too, but I’m kind of unsure.

Is there a consensus on ‘parents could repeal their love’ vs ‘they had emotional needs’?

^thats what I got as well

@ michaelG
i got the sympathetic character too

@light365
i’m 100% certain it’s emotional needs.

it definitely isnt repeal their love, thats extreme.

@MichaelGScarn
I was between that and deception, but I went with sympathetic in the end.

@onlyshallow
why do you say that? i didn’t feel like anything in the passage talked about the parent’s needs

i think it was deception

btw the scientists the need for "objectivity?

and as a young woman, she looked the experimental forms with “nonchalance”?

@starr
figured out the experimental thing-- sounds like there were two. both venice and fluoride were experimental

objectivity.

also, could someone that didn’t have CR experimental PM me to discuss? b/c i’m really confused about which one was experimental…venice/flouride

[SORRY FOR REPOSTING… it just keeps getting lost]
