May SAT 2011: CR Section

newton- Ahh… I changed it to understatement last minute…

i really hope it was experimental, i was dying after i realized i changed tenuous. the sentence was like “the teacher found the student’s essay to be _____________ because it lacked any conclusive evidence.” answers included caustic, tenuous, irrefutable.

i don’t remember the platitude question.

the constitute one was VERY roughly: “although somethingsomething does not ____________ something, blank is what ______________ them.” haha that was awful sorry, i can’t remember much of it.

and oh yeah, misnomer!

Gifted artists of the Paleolithic period

^ someone mentioned that this is the same question where another answer option is “valuable for natural history” or something like that. if that’s the case then i don’t think the above choice is a valid answer because passage 2 was talking about how guthrie viewed them as useful but by no means artistic since they were made by teenagers. if it isn’t then the “valuable for natural history” might be an answer for another question

@yoursky the question wasnt asking guthries opinion it was asking the “many art historians” opinion about the cave art on lines 13-17 of passage one => and most of them think they are like “Michelangelo” aka gifted. so that was defintiely right.

@Dizzying i dont remember platitude, tenous AT ALL and i had writing experimental so im sure yours was experimental as well.

GUYS WE JUST NEED A COUPLE MORE TO GET ALL THE VOCABS!!! then the matter could be settled and we can move on to reading passages. :)

I do remember Guthrie (or the guy describing Guthrie) explicitly stating that cave paintings are “valuable for natural history,” or some variant of it. Just because the painters were not does not mean the paintings were not.

the Imperturbable/Ruffled one… (this question said something about the boy always being frazzled and stressed, so this definitely doesn’t make sense to me)

Also… I had a passage about some girl who had trouble vocalizing her opinions in the classroom and some woman tried to help her… was that experimental?

EDIT- learning jazz is a strenuous activity, I also think this one is wrong…

The more correct answer was something along the lines of- “learning jazz is very meaningful and shows one’s true identity” not 100% sure though…

@somestudent the point is, the question did NOT ask for guthries opinion so it doesnt matter what he thinks. anyone had other opinions???

i also remember something about “a mother whale teaches her offspring ___________, blahblahblah.” answer was vocalization. did everyone else have it?

Somestudent2 is right , because the question asks "how would Guthrine think of Passage 1’s statement " of the beautiful paintings…I mean it says in 2nd paragraph of passage 2 that he values them as evidence of natural history…

i did not have the reading experimental, and i remember platitude as a mc choice but i didnt pick it as an answer

i remember a “vocalization” indeed

Also can anyone please tell me which vocab problem the “mediation” answer is for??? Thats probably my one mistake in vocab this time…I don;t remember this at all…

Are the scientist arbitary since they determinded something wrong?

half- the mediation was the girl’s book love and something…

shoot, i think the platitude question was with the tenuous one…not good for me if it’s not experimental. does anyone else remember the one about a teacher grading a bad essay, answer was supposed to be tenuous?

@sorrow, what was the sentence again? i vaguely remember it but i didn’t put arbitrary.

I forgot… it’s something like scientists are ____ by proving something old was wrong I guess…

what was the one that said something like

“The girl initially thought of the book as (A romantic novel or something) but after Mrs. Flower read it she saw it more as (music or poetry or something)”

^i don’t remember that one at all, could it have been experimental?

man, the scientist one is going to bug me. pretty sure the answer wasn’t arbitrary but i don’t remember what i put…

I do remember a vocalization, too. Not sure if it’s experimental though… It was the first question that how parents should educate their offspring or something… 90% sure is on the same section as Venice which is experimental which I did best at :(

same here i didnt put arbitrary…and i dont remember platitude or tenuous so its either an incorrect choice or experimental

OH And i remembered a really easy question - it was the procrastinator one.
