I ran out of time with 6 qns unanswered. This really cost me the 800. I was able to manage my time very efficiently at home and I have scored all 800s. In the Test room, the story was different. Can anyone help me with suggestions with time management on SAT Math 2 for June? Does the proctor eat extra time by reading out the instructions? Thanks much.

Yeah the math 2 test can really be a time crunch, but the proctor is supposed to start the time after the instructions are read. I would suggest that you:
- work as quickly as possible (yeah sounds like a dead give away, but often people either start the test slowly, or slow down in the middle)
- don’t check your answers the first time around (at all)
- skip questions that you do not immediately know the answer to the first time around
- program your calculator with helpful formulas (like for the triangle question on the may test or for limits, or what is the 10th value of this sequence). It seems like a little thing but the time it saves adds up.
- check your time frequently and come up with bench marks that you establish before the test, such as in 15mins I want to be done with the first 20 questions and if you aren’t there you’ll know you have to speed up 15mins into the test rather than 50mins into the test.
- Also, what I found on the May SAT II was that I was doing math the long way rather than shortened forms that I had learned just because I was more comfortable with the longer way…if that is like you, don’t do that.
- If you are taking more practice tests at home, aim to finish with 10-15 mins to spare; that will give you a good buffer zone for the real test.

When you’re practicing…use only 50 minutes or so for the entire test. Then, you should be able to finish in the full 60 minutes during the real test.
