Anyone else write the May SAT? How do you think you did?

I took it today…I know I got one math wrong (the 3 restrictions) and 2 writing, maybe one or 2 CR. Essay was solid… I don’t know where that puts me, but I felt decent about it, just angry at myself for the careless mistake on the math Q.

You Viggyram?

^are you Canadian too? i’ve never seen ur posts in the Canada forum.

Well, i bombed math, i know i messed up 1 grid in and 2 MC…stupid errors too

W…I’m trying to figure out, so far I have everything that’s on that thread, but i don’t recognize the xylophone question…but i’m still looking.

CR…I left 2 blank…i really don’t know…the CR thread is so long too, i’m praying for 710-720 or something. it all depends on the curve too, so we’ll see. i’m praying for a very very generous M curve too…i messed up the bakery q (fail), the one with 2x + x^2 (once again, fail…i subbed in 0 for n initially and idk what i did wrong…i just miscalclated, so i panicked…subbed in 1, couldn’t find an answer so i left it blank…i was gonna guess the answer…as it turns out, i woulda guessed the correct answer…but i thought that the first time taker nerves may have caused more errors earlier and i didnt want to risk a -3 = -4).

i also messed up on the 1/4 spent, then spent 1/3…etc. M Q.

Yes, I am Canadian (Ottawa area). I’ve been “watching” CC for a while, I guess I don’t post as much as others.

I admit, for math, I haven’t looked at the Math forum because I’m scared to find my answers wrong.

I don’t recognize the xylophone Q either! I think it may have been one where you can detect the answer right away and not read any further (and therefore didnt read anything about a xylophone?)

2x + x^2…I can’t remember what i put…

I’m hoping for a generous curve overall…lol (especially for writing, I dunno, ppl seem to think it was easy, but I found a couple of the sentences ambiguous)

i found W easy…some say it was very hard…i found math easy,…but i mad 3 dumb errors (1 grid in, 2 MC)…CR, i can only pray for the best and hope that i answered the ones i was ‘iffy’ on correctly.

and i never knew you were Canadian, we should keep in touch and you should post in the Canadian section now and then. are you a junior…i am and what score are you aiming for? this was my first time taking…hby?

EDIT: and the answer to that question was 2x + x^2…the q. was like 2x^n+1 + x^n+2 = x^n+3

stress and anxiety killed my score…i rushed on that q. (above one) and got it wrong (omit), and i messed up on the easy bakery one (i put 24…its 4)…and on the allowance spending one (1/4 then spent 1/3, and stuff)…next time, im going for 800…nerves rattled me, next time ill be geared for 800

I am a junior by American standards - grade 11. Is that what you mean? I am aiming for ideally 2300 + but I actually have no idea, it will probly between 2100 and 2300. You? This was my first time taking the test. I will be sure to keep in touch with you and will probably be posting a little more often!

Oh, and I second the anxiety thing.

Don’t worry about your scores… if its not that great, do them again. I got a 2100 my first time and I decided to take them again and improved. Anyways, I just wanted to point out that people should NOT leave questions blank. This is a bad idea.

yea, nerves kinda screwed me over. I will definitely write again, -3 Math is not what I was aiming for…next time I want to score 800. I feel good about Writing, so next time I hope to try to get Math up to where I want and boost CR.

If I took the October SAT would I in any way, shape or form be hindered when applying to top schools alam1 or anyone else that knows? I know they announce decisions all at once, but do they review all applications at the same time (ie. if i apply earlier = more chance of getting in? or does it not matter)?

For example, the following schools: Ivys, Rice, Emory, John Hopkins…basically top schools, because I’d think I’d get in at the lower ones I’m applying to.

I am perplexed about taking the June SAT or not, so this info. will help me make that decision. I only have like 2 days to make my decision too…

I feel like I should get 800M (i almost took it for granted), but nerves got to me (i messed up a substitution question when I subbed in what I needed to but stress caused me to miscalculate…i did this twice on this SAT…and i also messed up like a level 3 question).

^ I can’t see why you would be hindered in taking the October SAT unless you’re applying early decision. Statistics show that acceptance rates tend to be higher for ED but many people believe this is just because the hardcore “keeners” apply early.

^ Viggy, take a deep breath. If you want to take the June SAT, take it… but I STRONGLY suggest that you definitely take the SAT in October… this will give you ample opportunity to practise over the summer. Practise a lot over the summer and watch your score skyrocket. It’s almost a guarentee unless you’re already consistantly scoring 2250+
Even for Early Decision (the deadline is Nov 1 I believe for most ED schools), October SAT is not a problem. You don’t have to rush scores because scores will be available around late October so you can send your scores then. If it makes your mind feel better, you can “rush” scores which allows you to send scores earlier for additional cost. There is the new SAT policy in place which allows you to select which SAT scores to send. So if you want to, take the test 3 times. Don’t take it any more though. Keep in mind certain schools have their own policy which might require you to send all scores. Most schools superscore though. If you can only take one more SAT, take the October one. Practise and rock the exams! Good luck!

alam1, please read my other thread I made to help me make a decision.

the ED and EA one…i am very confused…and how long does it take to prep for SAT II Bio to get 770+?

hey alam1, i just had a note on your statement about not leaving things blank if you dont know them…

the SAT is scored so you LOSE 1/4 a point for every question that you incorrectly mark, but you lose nothing for leaving it blank… so, if you truly do not know the answer, it is smarter to leave it blank because you only have a 1 in 5 chance of getting it right, but a 4 in 5 chance of losing a 1/4 point

and Viggy, i do agree with alam1 that you shouldnt stress. if you feel that you will have to do it again, just keep up with studying and get your score report on the college board site – it shows you exactly what you got right and wrong, and in most cases why you got the questions wrong… check it out

i don’t want to prep for the SAT 2s next month…- -!!!

should i just take the ACT instead? Go to the States for the september one?

I don’t see how you ppl could remember what you did wrong and right…I just know that I left two M blank…one I didn’t know how to do, and one I panicked on - -
It’s the stupidest question too, the one with the chart asking at what number of hours would the two places charge the same amount.
I talked to my friends after, and my method was right, but for some reason I just couldn’t get the right answer @ the time T-T

I thought CR was pretty easy, and W was okay

I think I did pretty badly then…

ALSO!

Viggy, youre still seriously looking at Yale? If so, Score Choice is irrelevant because Yale looks at entire tests, not section scores. That being said, they do superscore, but they look at all scores on all tests taken, unless you opt to not send them an entire test

oops, "I think I did pretty badly then… " should be "I think I did pretty badly THOUGH… "

@thatguy, I’m still looking into Yale…and yea, I realize that they require all scores…but like how do they even know if I send in all my scores or not…?

Also, hinderpanda, I messed up on Math too, it was first time jitters, I should be good to go next time, -1 or 800 next time hopefully. CR was meh…since I suck at CR anyways, even the easy ones seem harder…W was easy in my opinion.

Please look at my ED and EA post…I need some serious advice!

Viggy, no they dont… but i mean, if you got like 800 on one section and 600 on the other two, they will see the whole test, not just the 800 section

but, they wont know about any tests that you dont elect to send them

yea, so, it helps if you want to get superscored.

But yea, please ppl go to my ED, EA thread on this Canada forum

i took them too yesterday.

i’m praying for a 2100… and i’ll be happy!

also, i heard if you take the ACT, you don’t have to do subject tests… is that true?
because if so, i’m definitely taking the ACTs
