Hey Vig, are you gonna send in your scores via score report? I think I did pretty badly, should I just not send it?

Hey Vig, are you gonna send in your scores via score report? I think I did pretty badly, should I just not send it?

All I know is that very few apply to the US in my community. I tell my teachers I’m taking the SAT and they’re like …oh cool, good luck? I know of 1 girl who got accepted to columbia here 2 years ago and 2 brothers who went to harvard a few years before that.

So, I’m hoping I’ll be one of these outliers!

Depending on the ivy, 10-30 is on the low side. I know that HYP accepts around 35-40, Cornell about 100-150, Penn around 50-60. Dunno much about the other 3… And yes, majority of these will be cross-admits, except the ED’s…

The “stats” depend vastly on individual applicant’s interests and fortes. I’m a science nerd, and speaking for my demographic, one need roughly 2250 + national contest awards + 90 plus average to have a great chance. The same stats apply to humanities track people I know. The “well-rounded” applicants need higher GPA than that and good leadership roles to stand out. Athletes are shoe-ins. The performance arts acceptances seem to be a bit random…

@Viggy…taking more SAT’s might even ruin your chance for ivies…Take my word that 2300 is definitely enough and taking it more times will make you look like a test monger.

And I envy those of you who go to private/good public schools!!! You have no idea how precious your opportunities are for someone who goes to a normal suburban high school.

^I never got 2300 lol. I said that I’d be lucky to get low 2200s. I only wrote 1 in May to get a feel for what to expect, etc. I want to try really hard on June and October though and try to be much better. But, I never said I got 2300 at all.

@hinderpanda, i’m a dude lol. no all-g school for me.

@nirvanatear, cornell accepts 100-150! that’s sick! how many canadians do you think apply to ivys anyways?

“^ Maybe I should consider going to an all-girls school. - -!”

I was talking about me. xD

Idk how many get into Cornell… 100-150 seems too high but, when I talked to them last year, they said around 500 apply to Cornell from Canada per year. That probably went up a bit.

Penn’s number of Canadian students in each class is typically in the low forties, which means that much more were offered admission (using the 63% yield rate, I would say probably around 70 people).

For Cornell, people with low/mid income bracket might want to reconsider. They used to give pretty generous aids for Canadians, but just this year, they took out most financial aid for Canadians (treated equally now with the rest of the international pool) probably because of the recession. People I know would need to pay full ride if they want to attend (i.e. need to get loan).

^is that yield rate the regular yield for Penn? Because if so, then the yield rate specifically for Canadians would be higher (makes sense logically…more likely for a Canadian to accept his acceptance to Penn than an American, just because we apply to fewer schools in general and Ivys are our ‘goal’ schools…while top US applicants usually have more of a choice…like multiple Ivy acceptances).

Anyways, yea, ~60 acceptances would make sense with a yield rate that’s higher.

How competitive is the Canadian pool anyways? It would be really interesting to know.

how did you guys do?

I did horrible, as I expected - -
2050

M650
W700
R750

I’m embarrassed. I don’t know what went wrong in the Writing Section…in fact all the sections. I can’t wait for the detailed score report thing to see where I messed up.

I got 2100:
M-710
W-710
CR-680

Hopefully I will do better in June and October. But I definitely scored lower than practice tests here and 100pts. lower than I expected (expected 50 higher in W, 30 higher in M, and 20 higher in CR).

HA. Wow. I got 2040 on my first time:

CR 720
M 650
R 680

^really dude? How long did you prep to get your score up (didn;t you get like 2190 at the end)? 'Cause I’m really disappointed and a success story would pump me up lol

Well, you being disappointed is unfortunately your own problem :P

I got 2090 in the end, not 2190. I prepped for 2 months the first time, then another 2 months the second time.

My advice to you is to stop being disappointed, dust yourself off if you are that concerned, study some more and youll be fine. Dont just study the topics in question of the SAT, study the test itself. Learn its tricks - there are plenty. Learn the ways you eliminate wrong answers easily on questions you are unsure of, look at root words for your English section, etc.

^ah sorry dude, I think I got you and alam1’s scores confused.

But yea, I’m getting over it, I;m just going to have to work hard for the next one.

2020! YAY!!! Exactly as I expected!

-wish i got a 2100+though. :(

Congrats PTBC!

OH, and, side note. The average SAT test taker, for the first time, gets a score of 1600 ish. So, good job to everyone who got over 2000 on their first try!

go to page 3 it shows you the averages

2040… Yay! :-D

lol I got 2200 by the end not 2190 Viggy! I’m offended. Jks… seriously don’t worry… keep prepping and the results will come.
