Finance grad from a top 30 ranked school, 2.94 UG gpa, 660 GMAT, 2 years work experience in finance dept of a fortune 100 company, interned for 3 years while in school and had a lot of extra currics on the resume as well. What are some of the MBA schools I should shoot for? And is Emory a safety/match/reach? Thanks
Your GPA is low, GMAT is low (80th percentile) and experience is also low (typically 3-5 yrs needed) for the better schools. The adcoms will question whether you can handle the workload can be insane.
You will need to address each area and mitigate or improve.
GPA- Why? Were you partying, didn’t study (not good) had health issues (reasonable) or did you start a business or had to work to get through undergrad (good). You might need to take a few classes to prove your can do well.
GMAT - One area you can improve a lot. Your score is on the low side for Goieuzta. Get a spectacular score, above 700 with 740 your target.
Experience - you need to tell a good story. What have you done management wise in those 2 years that make you leadership material? Your experience is very short which probably disqualifies you for most top schools except the part-time programs. Wait a few more years - you will also benefit from more experience.
I had an undergrad GPA lower than yours, a mid 700 GMAT score (plus more experience and took a few classes before applying where I got all A’s) , and still got into Ross and a few other top programs, including a few full ride scholarships. It is definitely possible.
You can also look at night, weekend, and evening programs which have slightly lower requirements and will allow you to work while completing your education. The MBA you get is the same, and because of the extended time frame, your employer may reimburse some or all of the tuition and it will raise your profile in your company. They usually take 4-6 years.
