So I am trying to plan out my summer classes, and have considered taking MCB 102 either in the Fall or the summer. However, since im a pre-med and an IB Major, I have considered taking Chem 135 (Chemical Biology), due to it having a much smaller class size, and giving about 35% A's and 35% B's (This is from what students who took the class have told me).

Now obviously Chem 135 will be harder, But I don't like classes jam packed with competitive students and an unforgiving grade distribution.

So my questions are: Does anyone know the grade distribution for MCB 102? And also, overall would you say the class is very difficult to earn an A in? or more so then the lower divs?

I took MCB 102 in the summer and it was fairly simple and low stress. Not difficult to get an A. Also, I found that it was a very important for my success in other bio upper divs (even ones that don’t list MCB 102 as a prereq). I would suggest taking that, then taking Chem 135 if that class still appeals to you.

Oh wow so it’s not so bad in the summer? Hmmmm, that makes me more inclined for it then. I had friends who took it this fall and said it was an absolute nightmare.

The chem 135 class gives no credit after MCB 102, so that isn’t really an option. But again, now the summer for 102 seems like more of a possibility

I took it during the summer, best decision ever.
I know someone who audited it during the summer and then actually took the class this fall and regretted it.
