As a freshman, I'd like to live in the engineering community in either McCarty or Elm. What are the pros and cons of each? Thanks!

No one really knows about the ‘personality’ of Elm because it hasn’t been opened yet. But it’s going to be expensive, at least a couple thousand more than McCarty.

^ I think Elm is about $2500 (probably a bit more) more a year than McCarty

After seeing Poplar on Tuesday, I can say that the new buildings are verrrryyyyy nice but its up to you to decide whether its worth another $2500 a year.

Thanks! I couldn’t find Elm on the campus map, probably because it’s brand new. Where is it? Would McCarty or Elm be closer to the engineering buildings?

It doesn’t matter where you live in relation to the engineering buildings. I guarantee that you will be taking classes ALL OVER campus.

(to answer your question though, McCarty will be closer)

Elm is being built right next to poplar and alder. Very close to where Terry and Lander is (was).

I’ll miss Terry-Lander.

But Elm is the answer.

Thanks everyone! Is Terry-Lander being renovated? Do you think that will make that area noisy?

Noisy & annoying.

That group of kids will start out in terry or lander (i forgot which one goes first) autumn quarter while they renovate the other. At winter quarter they will move everyone that was in the first building over to the renovated side while they work on the previously occupied building. Sounds annoying to have to move

The two buildings are connected…i don’t know how it wouldn’t be noisy.

I was wondering if you might be able to hear the renovation noise from Elm, since it’s pretty close to Terry-Lander.

I think the noise from the busses on Campus Parkway would mask any construction sound.

I bet you would. We can hear the Husky Stadium construction in the North Campus dorms.
