Lander (freshmen) vs. McCarty (engineering)

I was hoping to get some opinions on which dorm to choose for the upcoming academic year.

I will be an incoming freshmen directly admitted into the CSE department.

Would I get a better experience in Lander, where everyone's a freshman, or McCarty, where they have the engineering special interest floor next year?

I want to live somewhere sociable but be able to study quietly and get help when needed.

Thanks.

definitely mccarty if you want a quiet study environment.

McCarty all the way. I have friends there in the engineering floors and it’s apparently pretty social (sometimes… might be loud?) but more ‘moderate’ than Lander.

So Lander would be too loud and raucous for my liking? And what percentage of McCarty is inhabited by freshmen?

Bump

Also, you can only get the freshmen Lander experience once…

FlamingBirdy have you decided? I’m also a CSE direct admit deciding on where to dorm…

Hm, I don’t know the statistics on how many people live in McCarty that are freshmen. However, I know quite a few of them who live there. You definitely won’t be the ‘only’ freshman there!

Also, I’ve heard that direct admits are given priority to the engineering floors to make sure that they really get involved with the community. This was from my friend though; will need verification on this.

I’m facing a similar dilemma because I’m a business direct admit and I want to join the residential business community at Haggett, but I’ve heard that the rooms at Haggett are weird and not that great.
