It’s possible. My DS was accepted into the CS program with an uw GPA slightly lower than yours. From what I hear, McCombs and the CS program are similar in their competitiveness. I am convinced that his essays are what set him apart and got him in. They were very honest and - I can’t think of a better word - real. Don’t get me wrong, we were somewhat surprised that he was accepted into CS, but it just goes to show that you only have a chance if you go for it. So, go for it. Apply at other good schools so you have a safety net in case you do not get accepted at UT Austin. DS was accepted very early at TAMU so he had a good fall-back.
@Minny963 Thank you so much! Do you think I would have a better chance at getting into UT if I applied to the economics major at the College of Liberal Arts instead and then transferred to McCombs? I’ve heard that it is easier getting into COLA than Mccombs.
@pinxrt1 COLA is a lot easier to get into but transferring into McCombs is pretty hard.
Absolutely any input is appreciated!
I would go for what you really want, although you might put COLA as a second choice.
@Minny963 I was thinking I would do that too, but I’ve heard that non auto admits aren’t considered for second choice major or any other available majors. Do you know if that’s true?
Most people I know that have applied outside of the top 7% got capped
