McCombs or UCLA??

Hi I am a California college transfer and want to major in business. Received offers from UCLA (pre business econ) and UT Austin business school. It is really hard for me to decide as I know UCLA is more well known while mccombs ranks #6 in the country. I would be very much appreciated if you could give me some advise as this is a dilemma for me. Thanks!!

CCC transfer
GPA: 3.96
Major: Business
Status: us resident might work in Asia after graduation
Accepted: UCLA Pre Business Econ (under economics)
UT Austin McCombs school of Business

Both are good schools. UCLA might have a slight advantage, but not one that is significant. You can’t really go wrong either way. Which city do you like better?

Thanks- but UCLA doesn’t have a business school for undergrad and the major is under economics… It’s so hard to decide :((

I wasn’t aware of that. So you aren’t planning on earning an MBA? Honestly, I still think either one would be a great choice.

Hey! I was going through a similar situation. Though UCLA may be the more competitive school to get into (partly due to the sheer amount of applicants), UT’s McCombs is probably a step higher in the niche of business. It also depends on what you want to do. Marketing, Finance, and Accounting (which is ranked 1) are definitely top game, whereas some other majors not so much. For example, if you wanted to be, say, a financial banker (which is very viable with an economics degree), I’d still go for McCombs. In short, McCombs business > UCLA economics. However, both are great school and well regarded. Visit each and see what you like for yourself! Make sure to talk to upperclassmen/graduates.

Thanks!!

Which did you choose

I agree with McCombs. I was also choosing between McCombs and UCLA and ended up choosing McCombs for the same reason you did–I wanted to major in business, not economics. It was a bit different for me because the price difference was huge since I live in Texas. For you, I think they’re pretty comparable. I’d still go for McCombs, though.
