McCombs School of Business - BHP big deal?

DD got into McCombs, but not into the Business Honors Program (BHP). She wants to focus on the Finance - Investment Banking Track. Her concern is that because she was not admitted into the BHP, that she will suffer a disadvantage when seeking internships and eventually seeking post graduation employment compared to students in the BHP. Is this a valid concern?

Do investment banking/finance/venture capital employers favor BHP students over Finance track students when offering internships and jobs? DD is deciding among UT Ausin’s McComb’s, Babson, Rice and Pomona College. Of course, the latter two don’t offer business focus, but offer economics as a major, which is what DD will choose. Thank you in advance for your comments.

It is logical that employers would favor a BHP candidate over a non-BHP candidate. There are only 120 kids in BHP. They don’t all choose finance/investment banking as a career so she won’t be competing with all of them.

There are many other ways to make yourself appealing to that type of employer if that is your goal - extracurriculars, focused electives, etc.
