Mcgill Admissions Compare To American Unis

Can someone compare McGill's admission difficulties to an american school.

How important are SAT I and SAT II at McGIll. What does McGill think of the writing section and how would they view a 1540 (800m 740r).

What is the avg GPA for entering class.

How important is course difficulty at McGill.

ALL OF THESE QUESTIONS APPLY TO ARTSandSCI and SCIENCE FACULTIES

I'd say similar to NYU or UPenn

? NYU or UPenn? NYU is like 30% and Penn is like 20%. I've heard McGill's overall acceptance rate is around 25%.

I think Canadian universities focus solely on grades and test scores, so SAT scores for intl. students are probably extremely important. They don't look at ECs or essays from my understanding.

OK thank you for your replies. Does anyone have any more informations. Perhaps, something more concrete?

mcgill.ca is their website...that'll probably be more helpful than anything.

Collegeboard.com also has a profile of McGill although it is a Canadian school, as well as some other canadian schools, but strangely University of Toronto is not listed.

hey, i'm U1 B.A. + Sc, and i found out the actual acceptance rates for that faculty. I believe there were about 5500 applicants, and only 180ish acceptees, meaning a 3.3% acceptance rate. Science is better, but test scores are very important, more than extracurriculars and others.

I visited their website, they are hard to pinpooint on admissions. Basically i have a 1540 (800m , 740v) 3.5 unwighter 4.8 weighted. All honors and AP classes since high school started not a single mid track. I go to a hard school and regional reps of schools in US know about out public school. SAT II 720-m1, 710-biom, 750-UShistory

AP EXAMS-5US, 4bio, 4english(however i got a c+ for the yr in ap english)

Is it really that hard to get into McGill? UPenn, 20% , Mcgill 25%......That's worth noting.

for McGill, you're international, so the 25% is not exactly accurate, it's just all that I can go off of.

with my grades do i have a chance?

yes, u do.

Skir, with a 1540 and a 3.5 unweighted I'd say you have a very good chance.

I got into science with a 1400(780 m, 620 v) and a GPA around 3.7/3.8 and I'm also from the US.

thank you for your responses. I would like to add that I did recieve a C+ in french sophmore yr and C+ jr yr in AP english (i got a 4 on the exam however), so now my unwieghted mite be a 3.4

I'm in the same boat as you OP.

I've always gotten the impression that Mcgill is somewhat similar to Umich in terms of standards of acceptance. Collegeboard has Mcgill's acceptance at 56%. That may seem quite high, but keep in mind they do have different standards for international applicants. Also there is a quota system...which may or may not work in our favor.

man... hang in there... i would be pretty confident about your chances... dont sweat it...

and also different departments seem to have extremely different standards.

Arts&Sci for one seems to be extremely tough to get into

"I've always gotten the impression that Mcgill is somewhat similar to Umich in terms of standards of acceptance. "
funny you should say that, sagarmartha, those were actually the only two schools i applied to!

well...was I atleast the least bit correct in my assumption then? :)

well, i got in both places, but i was in-state for u of m so i can't say how accurate that makes the comparison. i don't really know what admission is like there for non-michiganders.

I know a lot of people who applied for it and got rejected, but then got accepted into another faculty such as arts or science. If you get rejected, dont worry, just know that the acceptance is very particular. I got accepted with a 1460 (780m/680v) and ironically, I have wanted to transfer out of the faculty since last year!
