How do I apply to McGill if I want to major in music and do premed?
I am looking, preferably, for specific answers of people who may’ve done this as well.
I know someone who did both Bachelor’s and Masters in music at McGill. He found it very challenging, says “you have to want to do it”, and loved it. The school of music there has great facilities and an amazing music library.
That being said, it is hard to imagine how any one human could possibly do all of majoring in music at McGill, completing premed requirements at McGill, and maintaining a GPA high enough to get into a medical school.
I am wondering whether a smaller school would be more likely to allow enough flexibility for you to actually do this. For example Acadia University in Nova Scotia has a very strong school of music and a very strong department of biology. I would be inclined to ask admissions there. Someone I know who did his MD at McGill recently told me that there were a lot of MD students there who had done their Bachelor’s at each of the good small universities in eastern Canada, including Acadia, Mount Allison, and several others.
Oh. Well I’m actually a US student, but I really like Montreal as a city. (I speak Ukrainian and French).
Is it possible to do it over 5 years? I did not intend to do everything in 4 years. I read on other blogs that McGill is roughly the same difficulty in premed as University of Wisconsin Madison, a school I am also considering. Do you happen to know which has better premed advising?
