I am a white male from Virginia interested in attending McGill for either Internatoinal Development Studies or Economics. I was wondering my chances of getting in with a scholarship given the following stats:

GPA (UW): 4.0
SAT: 2240 (730 M 720 CR 790 W 11 Essay)
ACT: 33
SAT II: 740 Math II (still need to take another one)
ECs: Run XC for 4 years (runner up in districts, 20th in states), 2 years of T&F, have played piano for 7 years, started fundraiser in school that is going to spread throughout county for Darfur (has raised $4000 so far), going to New Dehli for International Leadership and Community Development Conference

Other Info: in very rigorous science/math magnet school that includes 2 years of research and multivariable calculus.

APs:
AP World History-4
AP BC Calculus-5
AP Physics C-4
AP Economics
AP Government
AP Literature
AP Biology
(taking last four this upcoming year)

Almost definitely admitted. Good chance for a major scholarship. A separate on line appication is required for major scholarships and EC’s and recs are evaluated.

Thank you for your response, I have fallen in love with McGill! I was wondering if you knew when the applications for my class (who would be going to McGill Fall 2011 ) are released? The McGill site is slightly confusing, as I’ve heard I should get used to!

EASILY accepted. Luckily the dollar has appreciated against the Canadian dollar since I looked at it last year. Montreal is too cold for me. good luck!

On line applications are usually available in early September.

@IEORhopeful

What part of Virginia are you from? I am from Virginia, also. Petersburg area.

I’m from Northern Virginia, louduon county. so about 30 minutes from DC!

@tomofboston, what would you suggest I do if I do end up going to McGill? :

Double major IDS and Economics
Joint Honours Finance and Economics from the Faculty of Arts
Attend Management school for Finance

Which would be best as far as placement after McGill? I did hear about the rigor of the Joint Honours in Finance and Economics, and that economics is heavily based on mathematics, but I am relatively good at math (5 on BC as junior and multivariable next year), so would that be a good route to try?

I’d hesitate to make any recommendations, you seem to have done quite a bit of research about programs. You may want to take a look at Desautels’ International Management program:
[Major in International Management](http://www.mcgill.ca/desautels/bcom/program_info/majorim/)
This is a fairly new program.

I am also interested in the International Development Studies program, I am less experienced than you. New Delhi? Wow, that’s amazing.
Our school has a program called Naviance, and it shows results for people who got into McGill from previous years and the general scores required, it seems that you surpass those from America who usually are admitted.
I read that McGill does not look at ecs for admittance, only for scholarships.
