Studying at a US High School. Freshman and sophomore year at a prestigious private school (Obama’s daughters go there) that had relatively deflated grades, much like McGill. Sophomore year GPA was 3.43 both semesters. Transferred to a public school junior year and went 3.85 first semester, 4.0 second semester. First semester senior year was 3.85. Wondering how this trendline will be perceived.

If anyone can help calm my nerves or otherwise give me an accurate expectation that would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Just got my acceptance from McGill!! So excited but not sure I can attend until I get a reply regarding my financial aid application and my major entrance scholarship.

Got into both Arts Faculty as well as the Interfaculty BA/BSc program

SAT Subject Tests: Math Level 2: 790
Physics: 800

GPA: We don’t have GPAs here but I have consistently scored between (87.5% - 91%) in all my high school grades (9-12). My class rank is in the top 5-10%. We follow the ICSE/ISC syllabus in our school.

Nationality: Indian

I got an email from McGill saying that my admission status had been updated. I then checked the actual decision by logging into the Minerva system. I know the pressure of waiting is really horrible and really hope you guys get a decision soon.

I’m from Pennsylvania but I also have my Canadian citizenship. Really excited about McGill!

Oh congrats to all you who made it…I was rejected after three days I forwarded my Advanced levels of AAAAA in Econs, Accounting, Com&fin, Mgt and Biz maths. My SAT results were catastrophic; 480,430 and 420…well it wasn’t my fault cuz I had just three days to prepare for that exam, more to that in Cameroon where the SAT is not known nor anybody to help go about with it. It seem like Mcgill based their entire criteria for admission only on the SAT, they didn’t even look at my Advanced level results!!!.As said congrats to all who made it for fall 2014…I try elsewhere

@dexter25 Why did you send such a low sat score at all? Just your grades would have been enough to get you in (they are quite good and the minimum mcgill requirement is AAB or AAA). A 1330 in the SAT must have made a terrible impression.

You could write a letter or reconsideration to McGill after May 1. You could also take the May SAT or the SAT II to try and improve your score. If you can get your score close 1800 or score get close to 800 in the Subject tests, you might stand a chance at reconsideration… The Subject Tests are quite easy especially for an A-grader…

@dexter25 If you can’t ameliorate, you should never send the SAT score all (wherever it is not necessary). But I suppose it’s too late for that because you’ve already sent yours…

You need to choose between taking the SAT and the SAT Subject Tests this May (because you can’t take both on the same day). I’d recommend the SAT Subject Tests because you can take multiple Subject Tests on the same day and they are much easier to prepare for and high score…

@upapilot. I was misinformed by the educational adviser at the American embassy…she just told me that you got to write the SAT, but she didn’t tell that two weeks will be insufficient for me to self-study and get a 2300…worst of all the exam was invigilated by some francophone women, they didn’t even know the difference between a scientific calculator and a programmable calculator, the timing was bad. We wrote the Essay for 20mins but I just discovered it was normally suppose to be 25mins. Really the college board has to take strict measures making sure its international agencies follow the rules and have suitable guides. Anyway I’m crying over spilled milk!! will follow your advice to write the subject test…hope it will be available in my country. Thanks again

Technically, for non-American International students, McGill does NOT require SATs for admission all; they can admit you just based on your A-levels.

The recommended period of study for the SAT is about 3 months (14 weeks), 2 weeks is not even close to enough time.

For the Subject Tests, you will be at an advantage if you are already familiar with the subject areas being tested. Still I’d recommend a 2 weeks prep time (per subject) to get used to test format and time constraints.
