Does anyone have any feedback on McGill University compared to UMD for CS?
One is in a super cool city lol
My only feedback is McGill and the other elite Canadian schools do not babysit undergrads and in a tough major you are expected to keep up or leave. Not that they are encouraging students to leave
I have heard that over and over. No grade inflation or hand holding. I doubt either school is going to be a piece of cake. Hard work will win the day.
Montreal has become a major hub for AI. Here is an article from the McGill Alumni Magazine on AI.

Have you visited both schools?
Unfortunately, we did not make the trip to Montreal…McGill is very well known in Bermuda (where my son grew up) and is looked at as rather prestigious. A friend of mine did his Phd at McGill and he said that it does not carry much weight with Americans. Not that surprising. He is speaking with kids from both schools to try to make a decision. Thanks for the feedback.
McGill’s enrolment is 12% American and has been for decades. It is well known in the Northeast US and by corporate recruiters and grad school adcoms nationwide. Most Americans only know of local or at best regional schools.
@Bda2022 Two family members are tenured Profs at an Ivy, another at Chicago. They disagree with your friend’s opinion. McGill’s rep carries into the U S, and around the world, at least in the world of academia.
Am very interested in hearing opinions on the current of McGill’s CS, if anyone has first hand knowledge.
