Thank you very much @TomSrOfBoston
Hey guys, a lot of people have told me that international students have an advantage in being admitted, because Canada wants cultural diversity, we pay a higher tuition etc. I want to know your opinion about this…
when you had to upload your first semester grades did they email you or did you just have to check minerva?
@cosmicmaria Canada has plenty of home grown cultural diversity. Universities do like full pay internationals although none of the top universities will compromise academic standards to attract them.
@TomSrOfBoston that’s what I think too… where are you from?
Has anyone had a status update on Minerva yesterday or today or heard from admissions?
@CosmicMaria i totally agree. But in some cases, things are different. only within 30 days after acceptance must intl students submit the CSS profile (if they want), so mcgill wont know the financial status of these guys at the time they apply. Therefore not all intl students will pay full tuition, me as an example. I want to apply for a 15-17k aid. Also, as education systems are quite different between countries and there are no standardized equivalencies, so if many applicants have the same score but different grading systems, mcgill tends to accept all :)) thats my viewpoint. Hope to see you guys comments :))
@ToanNguyen Oh I see. I’m quite worried that not having a GPA grading system, neither IB or AP classes, will be a disadvantage for me My Colombian school only does percentages and my average is 92%
@klb222 I was going to ask the same thing! It would be amazing to receive a response before Christmas
@CosmicMaria I wouldn’t worry about it. McGill has lots of international students so I would think that admissions is good at analyzing grades, classes, scores from all over.
@CosmicMaria yep me neither :(( so i’m quite nervous about this problem… I just emailed mcgill and they said: priority in review is grade 11 and 12 (grade 10 is also quite important) and they wish to see improvement in grades from 10 to 12. If available, please submit school profile showing your class rank :)) so i guess they will base on your school prestige as well as your class rank if you re an intl students.
In my country, a 10 point scale is used widely. However grading criteria vary! In some schools, 9.6 or 9.7 is quite easy to get… in my school, hardly no one can get a 9.3 … 9.0s is top 5% to aprrox 10% of the class, but my school has students admitted to ivy schools! So that tells everything!
Accepted pending final results to the Faculty of Arts!!!
Oh God, I didn’t submit my class rank (and I am #1!) I guess I’ll just have to wait and see what happens…
@crystalshatter congratulations! Did you receive the offer today?
i guess intl students will receive results after us guys… so just pray!!! Hope the number 46% is true!!!
@ToanNguyen lol. All I want for Christmas is McGills acceptance
My daughter got her acceptance into the Faculty of Arts last night. Keep checking!
Hi, a few questions: 1) has anyone applied to more than 1 program at McGill? I couldn’t decide and so I applied to more than 1. Is that a problem? and 2) my application status says “Ready for Review”-- how long should it take to get a decision? (And I understand that the admissions office is closed for the holiday now and they return after the New Year). PS: I’m a US high school student.
@Pippin99 that’s great! Mine still says “ready for review”…
I was admitted to Arts, Science and Management. However, admissions emailed me asking for my AP Scores. Could I get rescinded for a REALLY bad AP score (1 lol) or are AP scores used solely for possible credits?
when did you apply?
