McGill - NO ESSAY?!!

Hi!

Yesterday, I applied to McGill. Before I knew it, I was done! There was no essay, nor space to list my extracurricular activities. What is going on? Did I fill out the wrong application?

Help me out!

That’s right. simple as that.
send in your transcript and school forms separately, and you’re all set.

Oh my, really? And what about recommendations? Do I need to fill out those school forms myself? Where can I find these… Hmm, kinda weird isn’t it?

Yep, no essay. Nice, isn’t it?

You only need recommendations if you’re applying to certain programs. It says in the application instructions section.
Your counselor should send the school forms (transcript, school profile).

That’s sad. I’m not applying to McGill then. I don’t want a college to accept me because of my scores.

Well, yeah, kinda nice… I guess? haha!
I’ll just check to see if I need recommendations. I want to major in Japanese and Economics, do you think I need recommendations?

For Canadian schools, its easy to get in but hard to get out lol, the opposite of Harvard. Take U of T for example. 1000 people start out in the first year in a program. The number gets cut by half in the second year.

^^^ Wait, how hard could it be? It’s so rare to hear of people getting kicked out of prestigious US schools

cuz the prestigious US schools are selective. THey select people who can actually do the work. Canadian schools like to take everybody, since they are publicly funded. Some programs like Chartered Accountating are extremely hard and a lot of people have to transfer to an easier program like general arts lol

Is that so? Hmm, Ok. But the system is similar right? I mean, I would like to double major. Do I need to pay double tuition for that? I know, this may sound so dumb but I’m serious. =)

i’m not sure cuz i’m not in uni yet. Based on my limited knowledge, there is no major only program. So i think if you want to do double major, you need to find a program that has both. (i think) The structure is very rigid.

Really? I read that you actuallt can double major… Hmm !

probably want to move this to the canada board

If you still need to know about the recommendations thing, then no, I don’t think so. You’re applying to the Faculty of Arts I assume? It seems that only Social Work, Religious Studies, Occupational Therapy, and Music need them.

Note that you can still send a recommendation if you want to  It’s just not mandatory.
