mcgill or yale?

<p>as a canadian junior i'm wondering what my chances at schools like cornell, bowdoin, dartmouth, and, my ultimate reach, yale. i'd probably only apply to two to four american schools - the majority of my university choices are in the great white north. </p>

<p>some basic stats
PSAT: 95th percentile
AP: 5 on US History last year, am taking AP comparative politics and AP microeconomics this year (this is independent study as these arent usually offered), will do calculus, lit and possibly stats next year
Average: 90
ECs:
president of debating society
exec for model un
founder/president film club
directing a play w grade 7-9
starting forward for field hockey
columnist for school newspaper
ski team
vounteering:
conservative party
mentor underpriviliged urban kids twice a week
awards: lots of debating/model un awards, honor roll, etc<br>
issues: lousy marks in sophmore year (parents divorced, grandmother died), current B in chemistry from terrible test</p>

<p>i will take my SATs for the first time in march. how are my chances? where can i improve?</p>

<p>to note:
very competitive private high school with >20% admission rate
no minority status</p>

<p>95% on the PSAT is pretty low; you'll need to up your score on the SAT by alot to even be considered at most of those schools.</p>

<p>yeah, i used the psat as a diagnostic and didnt study. i now know that i really need to practice for math. 98th percentile in both critical reading and writing skills and 85th in math :s definite problem</p>

<p>i don't understand this website... "95% on the PSAT is pretty low"</p>

<p>Were talking about colleges in the top 20 out of literally thousands. Of course amazing SAT scores are needed. A 95% is indeed somewhat low.</p>
