Does anyone have experience in their program, specifically for strings performance?

No personal experience, but it known as Canada's top performance school in general. Many US students peg it as one of their top choices. Historically it has had a strong chamber program. Andre Roy is one of the premier viola instructor/performers.

There were several threads about McGill, with input from a voice student there, last year -- you can probably find them with a search. The school is housed in a new building, has lots of good facilities, is quite large; it has a BA and BM option. The tuition is fairly low, though the US dollar is now even with the Canadian dollar. McGill is chronically underfunded in general, but that might not be an issue for the music school. The application to McGill is a breeze compared to US Universities -- minimal essays (unless you seek financial aid). You have to send in a screening tape; if selected, you must audition in Montreal or send a DVD -- no regional auditions.

clarification to mamenyu's post -- prescreening tapes are required for piano, female voice and all jazz instruments.

This thread touches on double degrees at McGill/Shulich:

I believe there was one double bassist from here who was accepted by McGill, not sure if attending. The rest of the acceptances were vocal. It might be worth checking the "Master List of Acceptances" thread (not "decisions", there's no one there listed attending).

For what it's worth my son's college studio prof took his undergrad at McGill.

You might also look at Toronto, Royal Conservatory of Music, if you are interested in Canadian opportunities.

Excellent music school, EXTREMELYYYYYYYYY difficult to get into. I auditioned and got rejected. They have like 3 tenor spots and there are 65-70 tenors auditioning. IT'S HARD. But, be determined! Schulich is in a gorgeou setting right in montreal lol. like RIGHT by the skyscrapers! it's awesome. and it's so impressive, the faculty are top of the knotch. Ifyou can get in there, i'd absolutely go. it's better than conservatives in the USk, i'd say..or at least on par with conservatories.
