McGill University '25 (entering fall '21) for US students - thoughts? doubts? stats? results?

Mom of US/Canada dual citizen daughter here. Just wanted to share her good news. Last week she was accepted to Mcgill Arts and UBC on the same day. We are overjoyed! Now the tough decision lies ahead.

I know some will ask, so her stats are 34 ACT, 3.99 GPA through 1st semester of this year. She took 8 APs through 11th grade and is doing 12th grade at U of Minn via dual enrollment so could not apply to Mcgill until the semester 1 grades were posted. She got her emails within just a couple of weeks after submitting the app to McGill and sending updated grades to UBC.

I just want to also thank all of you for the sanity check and great information I have gotten from this community over the last few years. This is daughter two and now we are at the end of this process thankfully! Daughter 1 was not able to get into either of these schools (she was waitlisted forever) but she found a different school that turned out to be the best possible place for her and she is so happy to be there.

Good luck to everyone still waiting to hear back. This process is hell but Canada is still a bright spot in common sense admissions!
(Sorry for the novel:)

Seems awfully quiet around here the last week or so for those of us waiting… how’s everyone holding up?

my status just changed to “reviewed: decision pending” which apparently means they haven’t made a decision yet… anyone else? nervewracking!

mine has been that way for several weeks… apparently it indicates that you are more competitive than those already rejected but less than those accepted. eek!

yes! really scary hahah fingers crossed for us!

Hello! Do you know if she submitted all of her grades though the portal (Minerva?) already? My D applied in early Jan, TO and thinks she has until March to submit grades? Not sure that is correct.

I’m pretty sure they won’t make a decision until midyear grades are submitted. That is what happened with my son. Once he submitted mid-year grades, he heard back very quickly – so I would recommend that your daughter update her grades asap.

We get our mid year grades on Thursday so hoping that will trigger some movement with application once those are entered.

Did they request mid-year grades? My son is “Further Review Required” for Science and mid-year grades was added to his application checklist - but it sounds like your status is different and your application has already been reviewed(?) No idea what that means though, sorry - maybe someone else had more info?

Our status ready to review and we are unable to update grades at this time. We submitted first quarter grades. Report cards come out Wednesday

Thank you! Not sure why she is saying March deadline, but I will check in with her. Letting her drive this process can be challenging— she didnt realize McGill has rolling admissions until January!

No. Ours still says ready for review - I don’t think it’s been looked at- and applied in October

So have you tried to submit mid term grades and the system won’t let you? Or you just don’t have them yet? I am concerned since they didn’t request them that the system might not let me enter in when we get them on Thursday.

They requested mine but the system won’t let me put them in

My daughter has “Further Review Required” but nothing added to the checklist (she only submitted first quarter grades.) She emailed her contact in admissions, and they said if they needed anything else it would be added in Minerva. So I guess we just wait.

So has anyone been successful in entering mid term grades if they weren’t asked for or requested? Does anyone know more about the March upload period? Or is that for Canadian applicants?

My D was asked to update her midterm grades last week via the self-reported form, which she did (kind of). At the end of November, she was so close to the end of the semester that she had just put in what her current grades were, presuming they wouldn’t change in the following 3 weeks. That turned out to be the case. However, when she was asked to update her midterm grades via the self-reported form, it would not allow her to submit unless she actually changed something (but there was nothing to change). She ended up changing her second semester “IP” to “P,” submitting it, then filled out the form to let them know those actually need to be IP.

However, yesterday she was then asked (via the Minerva checklist) to upload Final First Semester Grades. There was no direction at all given for this, other than file parameters. So, she uploaded her first semester report card. Idk. It would be far easier if we just sent an official mid-year report transcript from the school and called it a day, but that’s not how they roll at McGill, I guess.

So you weren’t able to switch IP to a letter grade? It does seem SO complicated!

I could have switched the IPs to anything, but they are second semester grades, so IP is correct.

If I was considering studying computer science, and I saw that form as the best the university could manage, it would give me pause.
