McGill University '25 (entering fall '21) for US students - thoughts? doubts? stats? results?

I’m glad yours is moving… I would think you would hear within a couple weeks after adding grades. Hoping we will get off ready for review!!! It’s a lesson in patience for sure.

honestly I feel like they’re moving in like reverse order. Most people I’ve heard who got in already applied last minute. And most who applied super early are still waiting on Ready for Review or Further Review Required

Agree… definitely not rolling admissions

Anyone heard anything in the past few days?

I applied in late dec and got my acceptance a few days ago after entering my grades for first semester… US applicant with ACT scores, AP tests, and got into engineering.

Nope.

It does not matter when you applied. They admit top down by stats and they usually want your 1st semester grades first. Some degrees take longer to respond than others.

This does not seem to be the case this year.

That is what I read and it seems like everyone who has been accepted already has high stats. Why do you think otherwise?

I used to have the same mindset but I applied as soon as I could and have higher stats than many people who have already been accepted and haven’t heard anything. I also know many other applicants in the same situation.

Did they apply to the same faculty as you?

Have you successfully uploaded your 1st semester final grades? One of my sons was accepted for Bachelor of Arts but still waiting on Commerce. He did apply with test scores. I am not sure if that could be a factor?

Yep

I uploaded them 2 weeks ago after they asked for mid year

I have a feeling you will hear soon.

My twins (from California) were admitted on Jan 27, a few days after uploading 1st semester grades. They applied in October.

One guy: 3.97 unweighted, ACT 34, admitted to Bachelor of Arts but still “reviewed-decision pending” for Bachelor of Commerce

Other guy: 3.90 unweighted, ACT 35, admitted to Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Science (Phys,Earth,Math&Comp Sci).

I agree, It seems very different this year. It appears like the early applications have been left on a pile in a corner. Regardless of GPA, test scores, the most recent applicants appear to be the ones admitted.

My son is in his final semester - Faculty of Arts (Econ Major, Poli Sci. minor). Home is the Boston area. He considers McGill “the best decision I’ve made in my life”. The rigor is real - kids work HARD. Student life is excellent - tons of clubs and activities and Montreal nightlife is wonderful. There is no handholding - they expect the kids to step up and “adult” and by and large they do. As a parent, it is wonderful to see. Classes can be big, especially early on. But my son is currently in once class with 11 kids and another with 30. Highly recommend.

Desautels (Commerce) is probably the most competitive Faculty. Decisions tend to be slower.

what are his future plans with that combo? Also, did he find good internships and other opportunities during his years there? My D is potentially political science but honestly, is leaning towards much smaller schools or programs (Midwestern LACs or James Madison College at Mich St)
