McGill University '25 (entering fall '21) for US students - thoughts? doubts? stats? results?

Hi - My D was just accepted and I am in the process of applying for her CAQ (I do not have her citizen cert yet but it’s in process). I am from Mtl and went to Concordia - I think you have a son attending? The estimated tuition for 2021 is 29k which is a big increase from last year but still a huge bargain. How has it been on campus and in the city lately? I have not been able to visit. I know this is crappy time of year weather wise, but not sure how restricted everything is with the curfew and restaurants closed for in-person dinning.

The last couple of months have been tough with the curfew (still 8 PM) and constraints. My son told me the rest of Quebec just moved to the orange zone…so 9:30 curfew and other easing of restrictions. We both suspect that Montreal will open up in April. Honestly, last summer and Fall was just fine. The kids spent a lot of time in Jeanne Mance Park - in big circles (socially distant) having drinks. Right now…there is definitely some isolation. (I have one in his last year at McGill and another finishing his second year at Concordia.) In spite of this last year, both still adore their schools and Montreal.

When did you apply for her citizenship certificate?

He has a 40/45 predicted or a 38/42 without bonus points. His school predicts correctly or just a bit below final grades.

Thank you! that’s helpful.

January so there is no way it will be processed before sept. I am hearing huge delays.

As I understand it, as an American, you can obtain your study permit upon entry, right? You just need a passport and the CAQ?

You can but it is typically not recommended. Keep an eye on the official Canadian government’s website regarding international study.

I am in the process of sorting it all out but that sounds right. You probably need other docs at entry.

I hope you hear back soon! I’m still further review required as well!

Since when?

I uploaded mid-year grades last Sunday after some issues with self-reporting, and I’m still labeled further review required.

When you submitted your documents, did the portal change to acknowledge receipt and if so, how long did it take? DD uploaded mid year grades over a week ago but the portal doesn’t acknowledge them as received.

When I initially completed my application, I included my SAT score because I was waiting for an email back from service point about whether or not AP courses could replace the SAT subject tests. I ended up completing the test optional form to exclude the SAT, but would this prevent me from getting accepted into Arts & Science at all?

I think you should be fine, sounds like there are several TO people on here who have been accepted, I believe? Are you ready for review? I would just make sure you successfully submitted the form that is required to be TO. Did you submit, but then withdraw, your SAT?

I initially put it on my application then submitted the TO form. I’m currently further review required, but I was told my application was complete and being passed on to an admissions officer. I’m just stressed because I haven’t received a decision despite being well above the cutoffs.

The exact same thing happened to me. I did the SAT but couldn’t report since I didn’t have subject tests. I got admitted within two weeks to Arts and Science!

In the section that allows you to upload/update grades(where it also tells you what’s needed) I think it changes right away with the date completed. If you upload grades, the link disappears and is replaced with the date you uploaded. You might call in if that’s not what’s happening for you, to double check.

Got it. I imagine it’s super stressful. I hope you hear soon! Are you also waiting on US schools or will you be done once you hear from McGill?

My mid-year grades were uploaded last Sunday. I only began to get concerned when my friend submitted grades on the same day and got accepted a few days later.
