Finance
He got the offer in Feb.
Desautels is McGill’s business school. In the Arts faculty he could major in economics and apply for a minor in finance in Desautels towards the end of first year. Admission is competitive and last year the cutoff GPA was 3.75.
Management minors for non-management students | Desautels Faculty of Management - McGill University
Desautels offers the Bachelor of Commerce while Arts offers the Bachelor of Arts.
Thank you Tom. I think he can do major in Finance or Economics in both Desautels and in Arts faculty. The difference is Bcom degree vs BA degree for the same major. But the fees for Desautels is very high (59000 Canadian dollars vs 25000 Canadian dollars). Being a business school, I guess Desautels fees is higher.
Quebec deregulated tuition by faculty over time. Hence, Science and Desautels have been higher for years. The Faculty of Arts tuition was deregulated about 2-3 years ago. McGill is taking a slow increase approach to the tuition for the Faculty of Arts. It definitely increases but nothing dramatic.
Desautels seems to have a stronger career services team. An Economics major in the Faculty of Arts can end up at the same types of firms but it just takes more hustle.
Finally off ready for review. Wanted mid term grades but had an issue with entering them so had to fill out form and hope they can fix the error. Who knows how long now for the wait!!! Hopefully this is a good thing, at least I know we aren’t in a pile waiting to be opened.
@labradoodlemom So happy for you! I know how long you have been waiting.
Best of luck!
Well… not holding my breath… not sure how much longer it can go. Thank you for the message!!
Good luck!!
Things are moving! Hopefully the wait won’t be too long.
Does anyone know if a student can double-major at McGill?
My son has a lot of AP credits, and I was told that he may be able to “skip” Year 0. Can he use that extra time for a double-major? And if so, can it be cross-faculty?
Thanks!
Cross faculty double majors would be difficult unless he is in the Arts and Science program which by definition is a double major. What majors would he be considering?
He was admitted to the Interfaculty program in Cognitive Science, which allows minors in either Arts or Sciences, including a minor in CS. I was just wondering if instead of a minor, McGill would allow a second major, especially since I think he will have a year’s worth of credits based on AP. And if they do, is any cross-over between the majors allowed so that a certain number of classes can count for both? Or do they all have to be unique.
Thanks!
Hi! Does anyone know when the housing portal will open?
Problems with self-reporting mid-year grades, anyone? We have tried calling Service Point and emailing, but no reply. DD21 was instructed to update Minerva with mid-year grades and has done so, but the system doesn’t seem to be accepting them for some reason. Her status summary says that mid-year grades are not yet received/processed and she is getting emails reminding her to submit them. But she HAS input all her grades to date and hit “submit.” The only grades that are listed as “in process” are third/fourth quarter, which of course she doesn’t have yet. Any ideas, anyone? We are getting quite worried.
Did you use the form on Minerva to contact them - they usually reply within a few days. You have to say you are an applicant and need to modify your application - then explain the situation . Good luck - it’s frustrating- we had an issue but they did email back…
Thanks, yes we did. The response says that they review the form in approximately 7 days. here’s hoping it’s less than that…
We did our form on Friday and today they said they would fix it. It isn’t fixed yet but at least they responded.
Oh, that’s good. did you have the same issue?
