Congratulations! My older son is a Desautels grad. It provided the basis for a very successful career. And it led him to some places he never imagined he would go.

Hi!! I’m not a U.S. applicant, but I’ve been following this thread for a few months now and congratulations to everyone who have been accepted!!! I’m an international applicant from Europe (Scandinavia) and have been on ‘Ready for Review’ since I submitted my Faculty of Arts application in December. I’m starting to worry about there not being enough time to get all the necessary paperwork in order (financial aid from my country, study permit etc.) before the semester would start, if I were to get accepted. Does anyone think that there’s any point in reaching out to McGill about it, or would it not have any impact on the admissions process at all? I think I know the answer already, but this waiting game is just so stressful!!

Congratulations. My son got into Desautels too.

I would reach out. Just be polite and say exactly what you said: you are extremely interested but want to be sure you have enough time to get all of the paperwork in order. It may or may not help - but I always think these things are worth a shot!

Congratulations!! That is fantastic news!

Did she get an email, or was she just checking Minerva?

My application just changed from “ready for review” to Reviewed - Decision Pending. Is this a good or bad thing?

Yeah, I think you’re right. At least I’d feel more at ease knowing that I’ve done everything I can. Thank you!! Do you think contacting service point is enough or should I try to reach out to the faculty directly?

Agreed. My son has all As and only 2 of them are A- (91s in AP Calc and AP Physics in 1st quarter senior year). All other grades are 95 or above and mostly accelerated/honors or AP courses except the general requirement courses. He submitted application in Nov and self-reported his high school grades in Dec. He’s also enrolled in 3 advanced level French courses at Rutgers University and submitted his transcript for the fall course (A) in January. The 2 spring semester grades are obviously pending. AP French (5) and Chem (5) - although I’m not sure if/how they count. Not exactly sure how GPA is calculated but using a couple methods, his is between 3.97-3.99UW. No SATs submitted. I’ve been following this thread and have seen acceptances to Arts and Arts & Sciences with much lower stats. He called Service Point a couple weeks ago to make sure everything is correct, but is still Ready for Review. So unless I’m missing something, I think it’s safe to say that McGill threw the whole top to bottom thing out the window this year. He has already been accepted to UC Berkeley and Santa Barbara, and waiting for some East Coast schools this week and next week. Thinks he has his mind made up already, but McGill used to be his 1st choice, and I think if he was accepted already it still would be.

I wonder if lack of scores may be a factor?

I was originally thinking that too but there are others on this thread who have been accepted to Arts or Arts & Sciences with lower stats and also have not submitted scores.

Strange because the good thing about McGill is they don’t use the “holistic” approach many US universities take. Subjectivity is mostly removed from the equation and their admissions formula is solely based on merit (i.e GPA + Test Scores).

My D applied in test optional in Nov’20 and got her acceptance to Arts less than two weeks ago. The wait is very frustrating. Your son’s stats are excellent, so I hope you hear good news very soon.

My daughter applied 5 months ago, at this point she just wants an answer one way or another.

Yes, it appears to be completely merit based since my son hasn’t submitted essays and ECs like he did for US schools. But unless all those on this thread who have already been accepted and posted their stats have for some reason deflated them or calculated them incorrectly, I can say with 100% certainty that McGill is not top to bottom… at least not this year. There is some other element(s)… country, region, state, high school, dual enrollment, or something else that weighs into their decision process.

Hang in there. I’ve been through the process twice and this year has definitely be different. Given the grades and rigor, it is hard to believe he won’t get good news. My alma mater in Philadelphia has really struggled this year with the surge in applications - it has just forced everyone to create new processes and ways of reviewing things. I hope he continues to get good news from school including McGill!
