Update - my daughter got into Desautels today. We’re all thrilled! Good luck to all that are still waiting, hopefully you also receive good news shortly!
I have all A’s with a 4.0 unweighted. My school doesn’t have any AP or IB classes, but I took all honors for all 4 years (highest level they offer). Maybe they prioritized kids with AP/IB courses?
Congrats my daughter will be In same program!!!
I just logged in and saw that I was admitted, which is great! But was curious if I should be expecting an email or some other correspondence with additional information? If yes, how long was the delay between the site update and an email or letter?
Your grades sound solid- I think without AP scores and no tests it’s harder for them to compare you to other 4.0 students. My daughter applied test optional with 4.0 unweighted and 4.2 weighted but she had high AP scores, we waited quite awhile but she did get in. Fingers crossed for you!
Congratulations to your daughter!! And thank you
Does anyone have any information about the status “Reviewed - Decision Pending”? I’m an Arts applicant from a private US high school, 3.57W GPA, B+/A- grades for English in grades 10-12 (I haven’t graduated 12th yet, but that grade will certainly be above a B+, and those stats are listed on McGill’s site). Is RDP a good sign? Is it worth waiting possibly until the end of the month for an update? I will commit to a school in the US if I don’t hear back from McGill in time. The wait is killing me!
My daughter was test optional with a 3.92 unweighted GPA (4.5ish weighted.) She was accepted to arts at the beginning of February. She did not submit test scores and only had one AP(of 3) that was worth submitting. We also don’t have any kids at her school in at least the last few years that have applied to McGill, but it is a highly regarded district. Maybe they are trying to figure out your the rigor of your school if they are not familiar with it.
has the housing portal opened yet? i have been hearing conflicting information.
Yes
Hey y’all so my status changed to further review required last Wednesday and I uploaded the doc they wanted that day, but they also added “High school graduation proof” to my checklist. Do u think that means I probably got in? Also how long does it usually take them to review it again?
…waiting is so hard
I have no insight but my guess is yes.
Has anyone’s status recently changed from “reviewed-decision pending” to the final decision?
We’re ten days away from many schools’ deadlines. What happens next? I’ve read many discussions of the ethics of double depositing and they tend to boil down to something similar to this (from the College Board):
Double depositing means putting down a deposit, and thus accepting admission, at more than one college. Since a student can’t attend multiple colleges, it is considered unethical.
I get that, but if our kids don’t hear from McGill soon, I can’t see NOT accepting another school’s offer before the deadline. Otherwise they run the risk of losing their spot, their scholarship, etc.
If McGill then comes through in mid-May, my kid accepts and notifies the other school immediately, it’s not really a double deposit, right?
Do you suppose any admission officers at McGill read this site? I wish one of them would chime in and explain why it can take >6 months to make their decisions when they don’t have to evaluate all of the essays, letters of recommendation, and extracurriculars that other universities do. And it’s not just a Canadian thing; my son heard from U of T pretty quickly. Getting frustrated here!
I think you have to put a deposit in somewhere else! If rejected, you’ve lost the opportunity to secure a spot. Honestly it made my daughter go off of McGill completely.
I don’t think this falls under the umbrella of “double depositing.” This is more akin to going to a school where you got off the waitlist after you’d already deposited for a school. You are still waiting to hear from McGill.
I 100% think you should deposit to a school before the 5/1 deadline. You have to make sure you have a good option. If McGill comes through after that, it is not unethical for you to change your mind and attend McGill.
Good luck!!!
This may explain the delays in many applicants receiving decisions. McGill (along with top US universities) has seen a dramatic increase in undergraduate applications this year in all categories compared to last year:
Quebec CEGEPs +31%
Ontario high schools +37%
Other Canadian high schools +15%
U.S. high schools +40%
Overseas high schools +19%
A 40% increase in applications from the US!! This will make estimating yield very difficult.

Wow!
Is there any information on how many applications McGill received this year in total? How many applications from international students?
