McGill University '25 (entering fall '21) for US students - thoughts? doubts? stats? results?

40% more from the states? Wow is right! My D is test optional from a HS that McGill has no track record with. Will be interesting to see what and when she finds out.

Wow we feel fortunate that our son was accepted then. He is the first to ever apply to McGill from his High School and I was worried they would hold it against him.

Do you know how many normally apply from the US?

All I could find on the website is this for past years through Fall, 2020:
Admissions Profile | Enrolment Services - McGill University

As with US schools it is not a situation of more students applying but rather students applying to an increasing number of schools. This makes estimating yield a crystal ball.

My daughter was accepted from a school that hasn’t had anyone apply to McGill (at least in the last 10 years) and she was test optional. She was accepted to Arts (her top choice) in the beginning of February but is still “reviewed-decision pending” for College of Science.

Congrats! That is really good to hear. That’s interesting that they still consider her second choice after accepting her into her first? I think the hold up for my daughter right now is that the requested her predicted IB scores in March. They have her scores and she is still pending. Will your daughter end up at McGill in the fall?

Yes, she has committed to McGill.

I can’t believe I can’t find this information myself, but where on Minerva do we see the actual tuition and charges? I see the entrance scholarship, and I can look up the tuition, but when/where do we see the actual charges?

Thank you! That’s really helpful!

I was also looking for our personalized bill – like the Cost of Attendance that US colleges send to their applicants.

Pretty sure that will appear soon.

I was accepted early February and I still don’t see a final bill when I click on “My Financial Aid” it just tells me that there are no financial aid or records available to view. Is there something wrong? Do I have to commit first in order to see it?

No school will prepare a bill for you until you have indicated that you will attend.

No, but US schools will prepare a personalized cost breakdown – at least if you apply for financial aid.

Can anyone tell me if McGill uses parent’s home equity when they evaluate you for financial aid?

Thanks!

Any idea how long the wait might be if my daughter’s status is reviewed - pending decision? We understand she’s in the “grey area”, but the US May 1 deadline is coming up and we’re hoping for a decision soon. FYI, she’s applied into the school of education. Thanks!

Sorry to hear it, but just know that you aren’t alone! My daughter sent in her predicted IB scores in March and is still waiting for them to be reviewed. Hang in there. I imagine several people may have to forfeit a deposit. This year has been so unusual overall, it’s just one more piece of the puzzle.

My son accepted offer at McGill Desautels. He is excited. Do we have a parents whatsapp group for McGill? If not, we can create a group to exchange messages quickly.

Anyone on here interested in McGill that does not yet know what they want to study? My D applied to Arts and is interested in languages, linguistics and probably many other things yet to be discovered. What is the McGill experience like for a student who has yet to figure that out?

This is a great question! I don’t know what I want to study either and have been wondering the same thing.
