McGill!!!!!

Hi Everyone,

I'm applying to McGill (my #1 choice school), but i have been thinking, and although i have my fingers crossed, i need to look at other options in case i am no accepted ( which would be extremely sad, but that's besides the point) :-p

I was looking around at other schools in CA, and came across Concordia, which is ALSO in Montreal! Anyone have any input in McGill vs. Concordia??
Thanks a lot!

Concordia is actually relatively close to McGill(a lot of mcgill students party in the concordia ghetto!)

It is a much more arts type school than McGill...smaller, for one thing, with more specialized fiends. It doesn't have the math/science/research strengths that McGill does, but actually I've known several people from arts faculties that transfered from McGill to concordia because they liked the atmosphere and program choices better. So I guess the simple answer is if you're looking into a "big name field" like math, science, premed, engineering, management, McGill is a better bet, however for a lot of arts courses Concordia comes out on top.

however McGill has more of a campus than Concordia does...concordia is more like a bunch of buidings mixed in with the city, where McGill does have a more defined campus. Concordia has a reputation as the more politically active school...their students are more involved in the political scene than McGill students. Also more students from Concordia are part time, or commuter students than McGill, but from experience, if you live in rez, it doesn't matter all that much.

there are programs that allow McGill students to take classes at concordia, and i assume vice versa as well.

I've heard great things about concordia...I would definitely apply. Admissions are easier than admissions to McGill, in general (there always are faculty exceptions).

Bonne chanve avec tes demands d'inscriptions! (good luck with your applications!)

Hi!

Could there possibly be an exception to the requirement of one of Chemistry or Physics SATIIs?

I have IC, IIC, Writing, Biology (800, 800, 750, 710). My scores are above average so I was wondering if I could get over those requirements by showing that I got As in Chemistry H and currently getting As in Physics AP? It said for other major(s) that the requirements were flexible if applicants were clearly qualified. I don't know how qualified I am but I was wondering.

Engineering is my top choice and to be forced to apply to a different major because of a silly SAT test would be hard to get over.

For McGill? the simplest suggestion is to take the ACT, and send that along with your SAT scores. If you take the ACT you don't need SAT IIs.

But I would e-mail an admissions advisor, or the admissiosn office and ask how much it would hurt, given all your other strengths (and you look very strong!!) if you didn't have that one SAT II.

^^^ wat about me!!!! i couldnt get pass 560 verbal score but i got 740 math for SATI

how many times have you taken the SATI?

just 3 times...cant anymore :(

Concordia is ****.

I live in Montreal--the people who go to Concordia are the ones who couldn't get into McGill, or any other good Canadian school. Most people with over a 70% average can get in (although I'm not sure how it works for intls)...But I frankly don't see why an American would choose Concordia over McGill. It has no reputation whatsoever for being a good school...the only major there with any value is communications.
