Mcintire

Hi! I was wondering how much does it weight to not have completed certain courses due to the fact that one's college does not offer them?

For example: U.Va. Office of Admission > Transfer Students > Transfer Core Course Requirements

[quote]
Elementary Accounting (6) - Financial and Managerial
Principles of Economics (6) - Micro and Macro
English Composition (3)
Mathematics (6) - One course in statistics (descriptive and inferential) and one course in either calculus or probability.
Humanities and Fine Arts (3) - One Course before enrollment. Two other courses - one in humanities, and one in social science, natural science, or physical science - are required before graduation and may be taken either before or after entering the McIntire School. A course in public speaking is strongly recommended.
Foreign Languages - Varies. Demonstrated proficiency equal to the intermediate level of college instruction.
Comm 180 - Introduction to business/computer useage course.

My school does not offer Comm180 and it says on the decision page that courses one takes makes or breaks the decision, but what if one just cant take the class since its not offered?

What kind of school do you go to?

A jc. By the way, does anyone know the faculty per student ratio at mcintire? Are there any TAs there? Whats the education like? Are classes big or small?

All that matters is recruitment, and the recruitment out of McIntire is excellent, to say the least. The educational quality is also superb and courses are rigorous.

Thanks for the information.

However, does Mcintire have "discussions" like at most other schools in which the TA does all the teaching?

Dood every school has classes that have discussion sections led by TAs, but there are no classes taught by TAs in the McIntire school.

There are, as a rule, no TA's at McIntire. The school has almost no grad students. Some sections of one of the two intro accounting classes may be taught students pursuing their masters in accounting next year.

and those accounting classes sometimes taught by grad students are taken in your 1st or 2nd year.

Once you get IN the comm school, absolutely no TA. It feels kinda weird.

whats the average class size?

40 when you are a third year. 30 when you are a 4th year

Yeah going on that Comm 180 question, my school offers a 300 level banking and finance class on financial modeling and applications which is mostly excel based. Is this a match for the Comm 180 class? It sounds more challenging because of the level, I don't know. I go to a 4-year BTW.

Sachmoney, you should email a comm school professor or advisor with your question. Look on the admissions website; there's probably someone who can help you. In general, though, that kind of course should be helpful regardless of if UVa gives credit for it.

Yeah, I was interested in taking it before...but it's full, and I would be switching from one 300 to another to take it...I think it would be helpful in getting an internship or whatever as well. Thanks for the advice though, I'm going to email them now.

This might help:

McIntire School of Commerce: Admissions for Current UVA Students

Comm180 or Intro to Bus 110 (every college has this course...)

Yeah not at mine...but there is a finance class on modeling and decision making, which I talked to the Dean at UVA about...and she said it should suffice. It's full but I talked to the professor and signed up for the waiting list. Hopefully, he increases the class size.

Is Comm 180 offered during the summer at UVA?

Comm 180 is offered this summer. This link might help:

U.Va. Summer Session / Courses

Click on the comm school link and you can see the schedule.

Thanks tweety I was looking over the website, trying everywhere to find it.

U.Va. Summer Session 2006 Course Listing

try this link. if this still doesnt work, click on McIntire School of Commerce in the list of links that you get on visiting the first link. and although the link shows 2006, i'd like to believe that the course schedule it shows is updated.
