Congrats
Any other McNair finalists receive their FedEx package?
Just out of curiosity, are any of you finalists (or nonfinalists! :)) visiting the SC Honors College tomorrow?
I got a McNair letter this evening from FedEx! It’s dated January 27th in case anyone was wondering!
D received FedEx on Weds. When we saw the FedEx truck pull up to the house, we immediately thought… OMG, it the McNair Letter. We immediately sent D a text “You have FedEx.” We are from OH. Very Excited - proud of D.
You’ll find lots of support from Ohio in the Honors College!
What were your D’s scores/extracurriculars like? Just a curious student
In short, my DDs high school strengths were academics and music. She had a 35 ACT, top GPA in her large high school & took the toughest classes. She participated in several clubs and played a sport at a JV level for two years. Outside of school she played in an student orchestra. During her different summers, she took part in a student exchange in her language area, worked and studied at college far from home. Pretty standard resume for high achiever students. She was told her curiosity, thoughtfulness and ability to communicate a different perspective through her writing set her apart.
D’s scores: 35 ACT, 4.6+ GPA, APs, NMSF. Extras: 3 varsity sports, lead in musicals, 100’s hours of Comm Service.
Any other invites received? We were told it would be after Feb. 1, but haven’t heard anything at all yet. Next week does sound late to get everything arranged for a visit.
I had an email exchange with our regional admissions rep, and he let me know that all McNair invites have been sent, and (rejection) letters should be received by everyone who submitted an application in the next few days.
My daughter has been accepted to the Honors College and applied for the McNair Scholarship. She did not receive an invite and as of today she has not received a rejection letter. She had a 34 ACT and a 5.29 Weighted GPA. Do they have alternates. That’s the only reason I can think that she has not at least received a rejection letter.
Just to clarify her HS uses a 6.0 scale for AP Classes.
You can call, but I don’t think they send out rejection letters. By default everyone applying to honors college is applying for Carolina/McNair since there’s no additional application. In the past if you don’t get an invite then you’re not included in top scholar competition.
My daughter received a rejection letter a week or 2 ago. She has applied to the honors college, but was not admitted in Dec., so we have been waiting to hear something. When I saw the letter, I was worried that it was the honors college rejection, so I was relieved to see that it was just notifying her that she had not qualified for any of the top scholarships (which we had already figured out).
We received a rejection letter yesterday in Boston, along with more snow…
Sorry for bad info, when oldest applied they didn’t send them. Based on Dotmom, sounds like they’re still going out.
just received a letter that said i did not receive mcnair - got a ‘at least’ offer earlier in December. kind of bummed, but i am guaranteed at least $72,500, so it is all well
@JamesTN my DD receive her McNair invite a 10 days before the weekend. They do want to fill those spots! Your DD’s stats are top notch, but there are plenty of kids in the Honors College with similar academic achievements. At this point it’s all about how the committee connected to her essays. Good luck!
Just to add to the information posted, my son received the “at least” scholarship letter in December. Then received the McNair rejection letter last Tuesday (2/17). Then received HC rejection letter today (2/23). Does anyone know the timeline and qualifications for Capstone?
