I know that I want to get MD and MBA degrees in graduate school, but I am not pre-med at any of the schools I have been accepted to (Dartmouth, UPenn, UChicago, Northwestern, Rice, Carnegie Mellon, Syracuse) so what should I major in? I was thinking of majoring in Biology and Minoring in Econ, but is that a wise choice?

Firstly, to get into MD program you have to be pre-med. Pre-med = taking core science courses. I think Bio major and econ minor is a great idea. But it doesn't matter. Just get into MD, then worry about the MBA - they're pretty easy getting into once your accepted into the medical program. Go to UPenn!

Bump.

I can't find any mention of a pre-med program at Penn. What should I do? I definitely want to go to med school (I have very detailed plans for grad school and post grad, but I still don't know about undergrad.) I fear that I won't be accepted into business school if I don't take SOME sort of econ/finance related course. Any suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated.

UPenn has a pre-med program; several of my friends are pre-med there.
Take the following:

Alston- you seem to confuse pre-med as a major. Pre-med is not a major, just a series of courses one must take before going to med school.

Majoring in biology, minoring in econ is fine.

Even Majoring in eecon, minoring is biology is fine.

Hell, you can even major in econ, and just go through the pre-med requisite courses. That's fine too!

Major will not matter for either program. Coursework will matter to medical schools. MBA admissions are usually separate from MD admissions even in joint-degree programs so your questions should be directed to the Business School forum here.

Why do you want both degrees?

I've always wanted to be a doctor or go into healthcare but I've always had a notable business acumen. It wasn't until I found out that it's possible to get an MD/MBA that I decided that I should get the best of both worlds. Going to the business end of medicine will fulfill that.

alston, i'm premed at penn, and i'm doing a minor in health care management (hcmg)...the impression that i've gotten through pre-med and hcmg courses is that you don't have to have an mba to go into the adminstrative side of medicine...but if you're interested, penn does have an md/mba program
