Hello--What can experienced students recommend to incoming freshman regarding meal plan selection and buzz card deposits? Is a 14 meal plan with $1000 enough? Why do the unsued meals not roll over week to week?

Is it possible to register through OSCAR for classes before attending FASET? Does the last group og FASET kids get the shaft in course selection?

Can you buy a textbook to preview over the summer?

What do the students who live far away do on Thanksgiving?

Is Greek registration considered competitive? (females)

"Is it possible to register through OSCAR for classes before attending FASET? Does the last group og FASET kids get the shaft in course selection?"

No, it is not possible to register before FASET. FASET is considered early registration, and is setup to try to give students a fair chance at registering. If you do not register during FASET, your next chance at registration will be during open registration the week before classes start.

From the FASET site:

"The majority of freshmen are pre-registered for between one and four courses, dependent on major, AP and other incoming credit prior to the first orientation. The student still has the option to add or drop certain classes during FASET. Nevertheless, the majority of classes then considered would be nearly equally filled for participants in each FASET -- there would be little if any advantage for a student even in that situation to attend an earlier FASET."

"Can you buy a textbook to preview over the summer?"

Yes, just go to the classes website and download the syllabus. It will have the textbook information. You are free to either buy the book at the campus bookstores, or get the book independently. However, just make sure you get the right edition. Often times, there might be a new edition just about every year, so make sure you get the one that will actually be used in the fall.

Sorry, can't help you too much on the other questions.

this is what i have heard. don't get the meal plan. most kids want to go to the spots around campus to eat or share pizza. if you get the meal plan, some don't end up using it that much. and lots of kids go home on weekends or go out places so the $ is better spent on a food budget. as for FE, eveyone pushes you to do it but people we know say don't. of course, you have to decide but my d is not the type to go to a cafeteria twice a day and eat that type of food.
