Sorry if this is a silly question: just got housing packet and initial paperwork in and had a couple questions.
1 - is the meal plan cost covered by “room and board” and can it be covered in my loans? Also, what’s the best plan for incoming freshmen?
2 - on the insurance piece, I’m covered by mom’s health insurance, it mentions a waiver in this case. Do most of you find that your parent’s company insurance is sufficient or do most not qualify for the waiver and end up needing university coverage?
Thanks!
1–I personally chose the 150 Pass plan and loved it—it was the perfect amount for me and was able to use both declining and meal swipes at a good pace. Many of my friends chose the Unlimited plans and ran out of declining very quickly in the year. You can also change your meal plan up until a certain point in the year.
2–I was able to waive the insurance part.
@AcaiFrosh Can you tell me what the DB can be used for? I assume the meal places at Wilson Commons, as well as the convenience stores. Is there anything else? Also, pure number crunching would suggest the Blue Unlimited would work better for my 2 meal a day kid, but I know realistically the 150 plan would probably work better due to more choices, etc. How many meals (roughly) a week did you and your friends eat at the dining hall? Thank you.
Hey there! Room and board are put of the cost of attendance that we use to determine how much financial need a family has. We budget for board based on the generic freshman meal plan (not the Meliora Unlimited). Blue Unlimited or 150 pass are what we budget for.
