Meal plan questions

What meal plan would you suggest? Also, should freshmen usually get more meals in the cafeterias so that they can socialize more? Is using the other points in other places other than the cafeterias convenient? Can those other points be used toward places like Chick-fil-A, etc.?

Liberty.

Should they? Maybe, but the food sucks.

Yes.

Yes.

For freshmen, I would suggest getting the Liberty meal plan. 125 meals per semester is more than enough, and you will find that you like using your dining dollars more than meals. Dining Dollars can be used at locations all across campus (operated by Aramark): Chick-Fil-A, Subway, C3 Convenience Store, Starbucks, Au Bon Pain, Mark's Cafe (library), Cyber Cafe (in Towne Engineering), Tony Luke's, and the Houston Hall food court. Yes, it is very convenient.

Do most colleges require students to get the meal plan with the most meals? Are there any colleges that have freshman dorms with kitchens??

When we were at Penn for Previews last week they told us that Liberty is their most popular plan (it's the option with the least # of meals/semester and the most in Dining Dollars).

Most colleges do require students to have a meal plan during their freshman year. Plenty of schools have dorms with kitchens available for freshmen, Penn included (high rises, Stouffer Mayer, etc.).

In terms of Value, the liberty plan is the worst. You pay a $1900 meal plan to get $400 Dining Dollars, and 125 meals. That means each meal you eat at the dining hall is worth $12. On the other hand, if you get the Quaker plan, which is $40 dining dollars and 325 meals, you basically only pay for $6 a meal at the dining hall.

The university recommends the Liberty plan, obviously, because it basically implies that you have to pay more to eat in their dining halls.

But of course, if you're not going to eat much at the dining halls anyways, you might as well just go with the liberty plan.

The value of each meal varies, but say with the Quaker meal, if you have lots of meals left over it just becomes a waste. It's weird - at Penn Previews the sheet htey gave us said Liberty is 800 Dining Dollars with 125 meals.

Are they changing the plans? On the sheet we got from Dining Services at Penn Previews, the number of dining dollars for each of the 4 freshman plans is different from what's on the site.

They screwed up then. With the Liberty, you get 800 Dining Dollars for the entire year, but only 400 per semester. Typical mistake by dining services.

some please tell me taht we can use dining dollars at wawa...please let that be true...and also...is the wawa easy to get to from campus...i know theres one somewhere around but i havent seen it on my visits

no, sadly, wawa does not accept dining dollars. my lord, my dining $ would be gone so fast if it was.

and yeah, everyone, get on the liberty plan. meals at commons (hill is a little better) really suck. next year im just gonna not get a meal plan period, cuz ultimately its a waste of money (each commons meal comes out to being about $12 each, which is horrible, unless you love to eat bad food in large quantities). but yeah, get liberty, unless you're into masochism.
