Meal plan questions

Which meals aren't covered? I'm assuming they don't cover weekends and breaks. I know I won' have much spending money, so I want to know exactly what meals are provided with the meal plan.

The meal plan certainly cover weekends - it's 3 meals per day, seven days per week, so during term you never have to pay for a meal unless you want to. During breaks, the meal plan is inoperative, so if you're planning to be in New Haven during either Fall Break or Spring Break, you'll need to have some money for meals. Usually, though, even during breaks, you will be able to pick up a few meals. The international student center may provide some (since many internationals don't go home), and some college masters may invite anyone who is staying at Yale during Fall break to come to their house for Thanksgiving. Also, if you want to save money, use the student kitchen in your college (they all have them), to cook your own meals during break.

Thanks for the info!

I wouldn't imagine to be making food on a Sunday morning. lol But that's great that they do. :)

Anyways, this meal plan is covered by fin-aid as part of the housing, right?

And on national holidays, such as MLK day and Presidents Day, when classes do not meet, are the 3 meals still served then?

As long as school is in session, meal service is provided. You never have to pay for meals unless it's spring winter or thnxgiving break. Look over your FA statement -- they breakdown what all the anticipated expenses: food, housing, travel, incidentals, books.

Also Sunday doesn't have 3 meals. Instead there's brunch and dinner.

You meal plan is usable at any dining hall, including the cafeterias outside the 12 residential colleges. I don't know if this is still the case but the SOM (School of Mgt) cafeteria had steak! You're credited with a certain amount for lunch -- you'd just make up the difference (which was $1-2 bucks). The Kline Bio Tower cafeteria had the best assortment of ice cream treats too!

Since you're on FA, you may find that on-campus work-study generates quite a bit of cash for you. I never recall hurting for spending money due to what I earned from my job.
