Meal Plans at WashU

Anyone have any intel on meal plans. It appears you just get points to spend and the more expensive plans have more points but no info on what is typical or necessary. Just says silver is most popular but would like more details. Also, any input on appropriate amount for bear bucks account?
Thanks

Silver is the mandatory level for freshmen. It’s probably the best option to start out with for a student with a normal appetite (defined somewhat loosely though).

$100 is a good start to put into Bear Bucks. In the case where you run out of meal points, then the cost is taken out from the Bear Bucks balance. Also Bear Bucks do not expire unlike meal points at the end of the year. Some off-campus merchants will take Bear Bucks too.

My daughter was told by multiple students to get the silver meal plan.

If you play sports, a silver plan probably would not suffice. Unfortunately, if you don’t eat a lot, the bronze plan isn’t available until Sophomore year so you could sell your meal points to other students via the facebook group.
