I am contemplating on getting the gold or blue meal plan. I have heard the dorm food is not as good as the food you use with dining dollars. I was wondering is it 1 dining dollar = 1 meal or is it whatever the price is. Like depending on the meal, it could be 6, 7, 8 dining dollars? Wouldn't that be used up quickly. Also, do most people eat three meals a day. I plan on doing that. Which plan do most people get? I'm a guy going to live in pentland which doesn;t have a dining hall

if u live at pentland u can still eat at AI or lothian cafeteria. Personally, the food is not very tasty and gets old quick. This includes the Hub where its suppose to be “better” than the AI or lothian caferteria. If you plan on going home a decent amount throughout the year (say twice a month?) i would recommend the cheapest meal plan and just stock up on food from home. Btw, the cheapest meal plan allows you to eat everyday anyways.

how does dining dollars work? Is it just like normal money? Are the items at the restaurants like priced $7 and up or is it 1 dining dollar for each meal? Also, is it just one plate of food or buffet for the dining dollars?

you probably wont end up eating three meals a day in the dining hall. Dining dollars are like regular dollars in terms of pricing. You can buy a meal for around $7 or you can buy snacks and coffee such from the C-store with your dining dollars. No buffet style except in the dining halls. If you run out of meals, you can use your dining dollars to get into the dining hall, although it’s pricey ($6.75 for breakfast, $7.50 for lunch, and $11.25 for dinner if my memory serves me correctly.). i HIGHLY recommend getting blue75, because you can always easily upgrade to gold or tartan, but they almost NEVER let people downgrade to a smaller meal plan. I got gold 100 and i didnt eat a bunch of my meals and i wanted to downgrade so i wouldn’t waste so much money the next quarter but they wouldn’t let me. I definitely would’ve liked more dining dollars and fewer meals.

I’d recommend the cheapest plan. The food at the dining halls will get old pretty quick and its not that great. And the food on campus will get old too, like I got sick of eating on campus by mid winter quarter.

Can you let a friend use one of your meals swipe for the residence halls?

You should be able to i remember ppl bringing their family/friends over to dining halls, unless they’ve changed it.

You can only buy your friends into the dining halls with dining dollars, you cant use your meal plans on them. If your talking about like lending your friend your id to get in, they don’t technically allow that, but i see people get away with it all the time.

Oh and i recommend blue 75 as well. You’ll eat like 1-2 meals a day. Thats the norm.

If a meal using dining dollars cost $7 wouldn’t I waste the 200 very quickly

Well if you get blue 75, you get like 700 or so dining dollars for the year and you can afford 1 meal plan swipe per day. Somehow i, and many others, managed to make it last until our last day in the dorms. And i rarely go home.

If you eat meals in the dining halls you don’t use dining dollars, unless you run out of your 75, 100, or 150 meals a quarter.

I also recommend blue 75. Seriously, you’ll get sick of the food quickly and you get more dining dollars to spend at slightly better places like Panda Express…
