meal plans

to upperclassmen @ penn...

what meal plan is ideal for sophomores?

i'll be living in rodin btw

franklin!

but really, how much do you intend to use the dining halls vs. just dining dollars... because you could just bursar that

yeah i could use bursar/penn cash for food that i would typically use dining $ for... but what about meals? wouldn't an upperclassman living in a high rise typically eat ~1 meal/day (commons) ?

well not if you cook

and not that many upperclassmen eat in commons...

many of my friends, if they have plans at all, have the franklin (or something similarly small), especially if they cook

true

i think i am gonna go w/ the franklin plan b/c i won't waste any $ that way... if i want more meals or D$ later on i can just add them.

Only get a meal plan if you have (many) friends getting them too. You may have used it a lot as a freshman, but that was because everyone else had one too. (Though they started the whole to-go meal thing after I stopped getting meal plans, and that seems to be popular too).

The only friends that I know getting meal plans for next year (I'm a freshman) are those who need them to eat at hillel. aside from that, I don't see why anyone would have the urge to eat at a dining hall.

b/c of convenience... i'm living in rodin, so if i'm hungry and don't feel like cooking i can just walk to commons... i see sophomores there all the time

which plan would y'all recommend for freshmen?

the one with the least meals

liberty for freshman.

I'm living in Harrison next year and I'm not getting a meal plan. Meals on most plans are around $12 a meal. You can save a lot of money by going to Allegro's Greek Lady, food trucks, or any of the other fine eating establishments that are near the highrises.

I can tell you from experience that paying for food out of pocket can get expensive unless you are buying food in bulk and cooking a lot. Otherwise, a meal plan isn't a bad idea, but stick with Liberty.

Why is Liberty the best for Freshman??

Because most people shell through all their dining dollars (or at least, most of them) with a ton of meals left over, even under Liberty. The other plans are basically trading off what you'll use for what you won't use as often. The other meal plans come with too many meals and not enough dining dollars.

When do we sign up for meal plans? >_<
I'm so confused.

I never prefer Commons to food carts, fast food like Taco Bell, the stuff under commons including C-3 and Subway (open til midnight Sun-Thurs), or Wawa, so I'm not getting a meal plan. Plus I only like dining hall food for the breakfast, which is actually only $6.20 if you pay on the spot, and occasionally lunch/brunch which are only $9.30. So if I really want to go, I'd rather pay at that time.
