Hello all,
I am a current senior in high school seeking to major in mechanical engineering at CAL POLY SLO, UC DAVIS, OR UC SAN DIEGO. What are my chances of getting into these schools?
Stuff about me:
GPA:4.22 And going up
SAT:1870(670 math, 600 writing, 570 reading)
ACT: 28(29 writing, 29 math, 29 science, 26 reading)
SAT Math lvl 2: 640
SAT chemistry:650
Other stuff:
Asian immigrant
National Honor Society member
CSF applicant
President and founder of a school club (Stand up comedy club)
I appreciate all answers. Thanks.
I don’t really know, but I’m in the same boat as you, except reading and writing a little bit higher but gpa is 3.7 and I really hope to do engineering too. But applying to Caltech is gonna be really hard, everyong there probably has a 700+ in both math and critical reading for engineering…
Your GPA is good, excellent job on that. ECs are a bit weak.
You really should be worried about those test scores. SAT and ACT are low for all the schools (especially since its engineering). Your subject tests are low, almost to the point where you might want to reconsider actually submitting them, if its not too late.
For example, the average ACT for Poly is a 32, with an acceptance rate of 21% for engineering.
You are slightly below the average test scores for Davis. You want to be well above the average since the major is so impacted.
San Diego is the same story. Average 30 ACT for the school as a whole.
I don’t want to be a downer or crush you or anything, but did you apply to other schools? The ones you mentioned are all fiercely competitive. I wish you luck.
