There is no doubt that I want to work in the aerospace industry as a mechanical engineer. Which of the two would be better for this? ERAU says a lot of great things in their own press releases, but it's hard to find any other info about them. ERAU was also easy to get into. I don't know much about of U of A either. I am also waiting on decisions from Cal Poly SLO and UC Davis, but it's doubtful that I will be admitted. It is likely that I will be deciding between ERAU and UA, so please give me as much info as you can on:

Employment opportunities,
Educational value,
Cost vs. value,
Student life,
Clubs,
and anything else that would be of value for my decision. Thanks!

ERAU Prescott is a bit of an underrated school with a lot of potential. They have invested a substantial amount of money in to the Prescott campus over the last 10 years, upgrading and adding new buildings/labs (as well as library, cafeterias, etc). The campus has a very good feel to it, both aesthetically and socially.

Their core engineering programs are solid and plenty rigorous, with class sizes typically ranging from 8-25 students (compared to some schools which have classes comprising 500 or more students). All classes at the school are taught by professors; no T/A’s.

Cost of tuition is actually not as bad as some people make it out to be. In fact, as far as private schools go, it’s nearly a steal at $31k/year (excluding aid), and cheaper than most public schools’ out-of-state costs. If I’m honest, merit aid is a bit weak though.

Student life is outstanding in my opinion, however, YMMV depending on your tastes/interests. Prescott is a good fit for active, outdoor oriented students who don’t care much for nightlife and/or congestion. The campus has quite a few clubs (over 90 if I remember right) to get involved with, as well as undergraduate research opportunities (your adviser will be able to set you up with these).

All things considered here, if cost is an issue and/or you are unsure about pursuing engineering, you may want to consider a larger public school with more majors to fall back on. However, if you are pretty sure engineering is what you want to study, and cost is less of an issue for you, I would say ER-Prescott all the way.

If you have any other questions regarding ER-Prescott, private message me and I’d be happy to answer them (I do not work for the school)…
