Mechanical Engineering in BU vs NCSU

I would like everyone's input on which engineering program to pick. I was accepted to Boston University and North Carolina State's mechanical engineering program and both schools are really good. While weather and costs are slightly different, I want to base my decision on which school would offer the best networking to make connections and hopefully be very successful. Should I go for Private engineering program or go to a public state engineering program?

Also I want to go to the school that offers the best program for mechanical engineering thank you guys.

I’d say it depends on your ME specialty. NCSU overall reputation is excellent. Don’t know much about BU engineering, but materials science and bioemedical robotics seem to be specialties there.

Boston University. What state are you from ? You need to attend your own state university because North Carolina State is not worth giving up your in-state University.

NCSU has a relatively low price for an out-of-state public school, so it is not entirely out of the realm of possibility that it costs the same or less than some in-state public schools.

Just a bit of anecdotal hearsay from me. I have taken a couple MechE classes (Statics and Solid Mechanics) here at NCSU and while they were some of the hardest classes I have taken, they were also some of the most interesting. The teachers are truly involved and available. A’s are possible, but they expect a lot. I’m sure BU is good too, I just don’t know much about them.

I’m from NC.

As for as specialty goes, I love the outdoors and energy seems like a descent specialty to get into.

If you are from NC no need to turn it down and attend a private more expensive University unless both cost the same. Attend NC.

Come to State. I love it.

Source: Freshman in Engineering at NCSU (PSE/CHE, not ME)

Agreed. If you’re instate for NCSU and you’ve been admitted, take the NCSU offer, unless…

the financial aid package from Boston University IS FABULOUS, and lowers your COA to approximate the COA of NCSU.

By the way Xtreme Power, Boston University is not a public institution, i.e. not a “state school.”

"By the way Xtreme Power, Boston University is not a public institution, i.e. not a “state school.”

When did I say it was public lol

NC State has a really good engineering program and is worth the money. But it has the worst campus I have ever seen.

But for education, NC State is right. In this economy, choosing out of state is a foolish decision, unless you have the money!
