Mechanical Engineering, Military and Low Gpa

Hello,
I’m an Undergraduate student in YSU’s M.E program (sophomore) I recently started pursuing this degree because i know this is what i want in life and I know it’s what I will be happy doing. However my situation is rather bleak, I come from a low income family and am forced to work through school I have a full time job, unfortunately, and go to school part time. Because of my crazy hours my studies suffered and my Gpa fell to a current 2.32. I know this is bad and I desperately want to bring it up and i know that I definitely can. But the job I have is not school friendly and there are no other employment options I have in my area to support myself which I am currently doing. So I’ve decided to join the military earlier than I originally intended. I was going to enlist after school but i figured I’d finish my current semester and then go to school while enlisted as soon as i can, that way i can take advantage of the free tuition instead of dropping my classes even lower than part time and exiting out of the deferment program Financial aid offers. Needless to say I cannot afford to pay back my loans currently.

What i want to know is, is there anyone out there who can tell me that once i join the service. Will it be extremely difficult to impossible to trans. to another undergrad. Uni. ,with my current Gpa, while in the service for a mechanical engineering degree? To put this in perspective I haven’t taken many math courses let alone M.E classes yet. I just declared this my major. the most I’ve taken is:

-college algebra
-trig

-and that is this current semester.

My adviser is telling me that it may be easier to Withdraw this semester and start over at another Uni. Once I’m in the military. Or i could start a new school undeclared get my Gpa up and then declare M.E. as my major, I’m not sure if these are good ideas or not. If there is anyone who’s had a similar situation please offer me your guidance I am at a loss.

P.s any more info you need please let me know.
