mechanical engineering.. MS/PhD?

Hi,

I'm studying mechanical engineering (undergrad) and considering about the grad school. I have not yet decided what to study specifically yet, but am interested in engines in general - thermo stuffs.

I will probably decide pursuing PhD or not after studying in MS. What should i start with right now? I know i have to have good GPA and GRE score. But how can i choose the right school for me?

If possible can anyeon give me specific "scores" to get into so called top schools?

Have you done any research with a professor or at an internship. This is absolutely critical if you want to do grad school. If you have not done any research you cannot be sure that grad school is for you. Then once you have research experience hopefully you will have a better idea of what you are really interested in. Then you can start looking at specific schools and see if they have research that is interesting to you. You will not get far if you only know you are interested in “thermo stuff”.

If you know you want to do research it is usually better to go straight for the PhD instead of getting a masters and then deciding if you want a PhD. It will also be easier to get funding if you go in as a PhD student.

There really are no specific scores to get into the top schools. They may have a minimum cut off. GPA of 3.00 and a min GRE which varies between schools. But research experience, letters of recommendations and statement of purpose are also very important and in some cases even more important.

alright research… I will try to find one that appeals to me. I still have 2 years…
