So I am a halfway done with junior year going into the fall, and I am thinking of adding courses to fill a pre med requirement. I'm a secondary math education major and almost finished so I want to get my teaching cert in math, and my ba in math. I'm thinking of minoring in chem and just taking the bio classes I need. I have a 3.1 gpa as of now but if I just start my science courses now and really try, I believe I can pull it up to a respectable level for admissions. I guess my question is is this a realistic option?

does you college have a premed advisor?

They only have advisors at graduate level, but I do not want to go to med school here. I would like to try and get into a recognizable school.

“Recognizable school”? For med school?

Medical education is “flat”–that is there aren’t significant differences in educational quality among schools. All med schools classes teach the same curriculum and all medical students take the same exact national standardized exams.

You will need more than just bio (2 semesters) & chem (5 semesters–genc chem, ochem and biochem) for med school admission. You’ll also need physics (2 semesters) , stats, English and some social science (sociology & psychology will be part of MCAT starting in February).

How are your math grades? Those will be included when calculating your sGPA. (sGPA includes bio, chem, math and physics courses.)

To get serious consideration, your sGPA and GPA need to be at least 3.5.

???

ALL US MD schools are “recognizable”. All are excellent.

You should consider yourself super lucky to get accepted to any one of them.

Are you saying that your undergrad has a MD school, but you dont want to go there if you are lucky enough to get accepted? Do you realize how hard it will be for you to get accepted to ANY MD school???

All of your math classes will be included in your Science GPA. What grades have you been getting in those?

3.1 GPA does not work any med schools in US.

3.1 is low, your goal is about 3.6+ as a min.
