I am currently a biochemistry major at boston college. I know for the most part that the major and the school doesnt really affect medical school admission but i have a few more specific questions. Considering that med schools heavily weight the GPA of the science core, bio chem orgo physics and calc, if i am enrolled in the honors chemistry program and receiving A's in it does that look better than getting A's in the normal chemistry program. Also just curious i know that having good stats isnt a guarentee into medical school but if i have a 3.75 gpa and a MCAT score equivalent to a 1500 SAT is that considered good statistics for Columbia medical school and furthermore the dual degree program MD/MBA?

The honors chem question: might help a bit, but make sure that you can get an A if you take it. Your second question: go to MDapplicant.com and check out the applicants to Columbia Med School.

Alright well thanx....so far i am receiving A's and plan on continuing to do so...as far as taking physics and lab over the summer i am not sure if that is a negative or not....still awaiting an answer. also i couldnt get that website to work for some reason so ill try another way to look at the stats but maybe you know, what is the equivalent of a 1500 on the SAT on the MCAT?

it depends. One can't really equate the SAT with the MCAT. If I had to say, it would be around a 30.

ALso, when med schools require 1 year of biology, is it ok and therefore acceptable to take one semester of intro biology and another semester of bio elective (ie, genetics, biochem, etc.) other than introdutory biology?

im not entirely sure about the bio elective...i would imagine its ok but im not positive try contacting a med school or keep searching....ha more questions than answers on this thread....i was wondering if pursuing a MD/MBA dual degree is liked or disliked by residencies?
