med school requirements and honors

^ hahaha yep, but what that comic leaves out is the person standing way way to the right of the mathematician, which is the philosopher going “suckers - mathematics is just applied philosophy (logic)… pwned” :D

“They don’t like physics because the field as whole requires knowing a great deal of math if you are going to truly explore the subject area.”

-Not always the case. Fos some, math is easy, but they do not care for it, it is boring for them. They feel the same about physics. It is purely personal preference and has nothing to do with subject, which is very fascinating for others (including me, but my D. feels very different about physics). These people would not have any problem taking calc based physics, they just do not see any point doing so if they have a choice.
It is not correct to assume that if person is much into Bio, he does not understand math. Not always true. Notion of personal “hard” vs. “easy” does not reflect personal preferences either. Some people love subjects that happen to be harder for them, while being not interested at all in their “easy” subjects. Philosophy lover might have very easy time with math while not being interested in math at all. This is the case with my D. who is very much into Bio and Neuroscience classes. Her easiest classes have always been math and Gen. Chem (she likes chem, but do not care about math and physics), while all Bio have been very hard but at the same time very exciting. One interesting fact that she has just pointed out recently is that her math ability is helping her greatly in her Music theory classes (Music minor) where she is at great advantage in comparison to Music Majors because of her stronger math background.

WOWMom and Icarus,

That comic is an occasional topic among me and my intellectual buddies. LOL at the joke, WOWMom, and I wish they had included philosophers Icarus! Would be funny. Glad the competition is all in jest (…or at least I think it is? But I guess on that hierarchy, I’m one of the lowly biologists!):)

Thank you very much everyone for the info:)
