Premed in high school lol

Is it strange that I'm a senior in high school, and I'm going to have basic premed requirements like organic chem 1 and 2, General Physics 1 and 2, General Chemistry 1 and 2, and Calculus I and II and AP bio credit all knocked out by the time I finish this year? (All taken through Indiana University dual-enrolled)

Grades from actual college courses taken while in high school will count toward your GPA for applying to medical school. That can be good if you have A grades, not so good if you have grades lower than A-.

AP courses and tests do not count, and many medical schools do not accept them in fulfillment of pre-med course requirements, so you may have to retake the courses or take more advanced courses in the subject to fulfill the pre-med course requirements.

I know. I’m just saying that I’m already doing all of these classes. Not necessarily that I’ll test right into Organic Chem III or something, but I would have a strong foundation and understanding in all of these branches of sciences, and I’d very likely do extremely well on the MCAT

humble brag?

Are you taking these DE classes AT Indiana, or are you taking them at your high school by a HS school teacher?

What are you going to do about your AP Bio credits?

What will your major be when you go to college? Where are you planning to go to college?

It sounds like you’re on track to graduate from college by about 19/20. Is that your plan?

I am taking them AT Indiana, and my AP Bio credits I’m not really sure about. I’m planning to major in either chemistry or biology probably, and I want to go to medical school. I’m not sure what my plan is past undergraduate education.

So then take advanced classes in college and learn more. I don’t get the issue here?

Organic Chemistry 3? Does that actually exist as a course anywhere?

Brown has advanced orgo which requires Orgo 1/2 as pre-reqs: [CHEM 1450 S01 | Courses](<a href=“Course Tools”>Course Tools)

northwestern does.

Well how many of your peers have taken such advanced courses? It’s not weird, just unusual for HS students to have achieved what you have.

Huh? Seems like your plan past undergraduate education is medical school.

However, if you do not get into medical school (only about half of those who apply get into any medical school), be aware that biology and chemistry majors do not have good job prospects at the bachelor’s degree level. No specific major is required for medical school; indeed, given that you have already taken a lot of the pre-med courses from a four year school, you have a freer choice of major and courses than most pre-meds.

Actually, a number of states have Running Start-like programs where high school students earn AA’s and their high school diplomas at the same time, so there are a number of students out there that could have their premed prereqs complete while in high school.

“northwestern does”
-Does what? Require 3 Orgo’s? Did I misunderstand? D. was accepted to Feinberg but choose a different Med. School. She took only whatever Orgo required by all Med. Schools. Orgo is not her favorite, but she did well enough on MCAT.
